Aquarium Water Test Kits, & Lab Grade Test Strips | Water Testing Tips - API Master Test Kit Use Instructions Tips | All you need to know about aquarium water testing, strips and kits!

Today Mike goes over his aquarium water testing tips and tricks. We use a variety of different products to regularly test our water and discuss our favorite and least favorite aquarium test strips and water test kits.
First, we look at what we use to test our fish tank water. The API master test kit, which has proven to be a fairly accurate aquarium water testing kit, is one we use often. It does lack a GH/KH test kit, but otherwise is a solid product.
Next, we look at test strips for fish tank water testing. We have had bad experiences with some test strips not being accurate. We found good results using lab grade water testing strips. We have used test strips from Macherey-Nagel, as well as Precision Labs, and have found both to be highly accurate aquarium water testing strips. Links to the manufacturers included below.
Having issues with the API master test kit? Mike goes over a few common issues, He starts by giving a demonstration of the low and high range ph liquid test showing the very low end result on the high range ph test and the very high end result on the low range ph test Using CaribSea aragonite sand he quickly boost the ph and shows the high end result of the high range ph scale as well. You can simulate this experiment yourself using limestone or crushed coral as an example, if aragonite is not available
Another common issue seen with the API master test kit is inaccurate nitrate test results. Often if you are not thoroughly shaking nitrate bottle #2 before adding it to your test, you will be left with inaccurate or false nitrate readings.
Also discussed is the tools we use to collect aquarium water for testing. Oral syringes or pipettes work great for collecting fish tank water testing samples. They are low cost and can be used for a variety of aquarium uses, specifically helpful for ensuring accurate dosing and measurements.Links for similar tools included below.
