The Aqara G2H (China Edition) hit the market a few weeks ago. The first thing to be aware of is that the China version is NOT the international version which should be releasing later this year.
The Aqara G2H is packed with features including local storage ( microSD card ), HomeKit Secure Video support, as well as the inclusion of a zigbee hub where you can pair your Aqara accessories and extend your SmartHome with any of the various Aqara accessories. At least that's the theory...
There are some things that you need to be aware of though...
1) The Aqara G2H (China Edition) seems to be locked in the Chinese language. To be clear, the app is in English ( or I'm assuming whatever languages Aqara supports ) but the voice prompts of the camera only speak in Chinese. This may be resolved in the future through a firmware update, but for now - it's definitely something to be aware of.
2) Not ALL the Aqara accessories are exposed to HomeKit. The Apple HomeKit certification requires all accessories paired to a hub to be certified. In the case of the Aqara G2H Camera, it looks like that, since it's a China market camera, the North American zigbee smart plugs weren't included in that certification process. At least not yet. Again - could this change in the future? Sure - but it's better to be aware of the limitations of the product now - especially if you are ordering this for use outside of China. Better to have the right expectations.
3) The last thing I'd point out is the general uncertainty with Aqara's global business plan. Aqara has been doing globally, and has done a huge amount of work to improve their North American sales model since the introduction of the Aqara products on Amazon.com last year, but there's still uncertainty on how products ordered from international sources are going to work in other regions.
If you're a Apple Homekit user, you can always pair it directly with the your Apple Homekit home and avoid the Aqara app altogether, but it's definitely a "buyer beware" situation.
The Aqara G2H is a great little camera. It's super cute. Colourful and checks all the boxes for my Apple Homekit home, but it does have some limitations that you'll want to be aware of before jumping in.
