I recently found a rather cheap SDU-5500 so i just could not resist buying it. I already have an SDU-5000, but the screen is quite small compared to the 5500, so that's certainly a step forward and i might now sell the SDU-5000 as i don't really need 2 display units.
Only problem with the 5500 is that the display has a pressure mark and it appears to grow over time. Not yet dramatic, but sooner or later it will need a new display. Therefore we took it apart and looked inside to find out what's required.
It turned out to be a standard part, still available but not exactly cheap (around $200). At least we know what to look for and there is still a bit of lifetime left in the old one. so we can wait for that bargain.
Just because it's sort of the same subject, i added a brief talk about my other Spectrum Analyzers which are an Ailtech 727 boat anchor, a Marconi TF2370 which now needs some work and a Hung Chang 7802 (Korea) which i am looking for a manual, still working fine, but
now over 20 years old, so better having some documentation.
If anyone has one, please let me know.
