Our more observant readers may have noted an untoward gap between our traditional summer break and our re-emergence on Labour Day. This, however, was solely attributable to the brutal intrusion of Hurricane Dorian earlier this month, which, while hardly up to the level inflicted on the unfortunate Bahamas, wrought its own degree of havoc on our neck of the woods, as the snapshots attached will attest.
In its wake, dozens of our trees took a severe haircut, but comparatively few were lost. Not so neighbouring apple orchards and vineyards, which suffered either major setbacks or total write-offs; and it remains to be seen just how much fruit can be salvaged at this point.
In the meantime, we resurface for another season, bloodied but unbowed. And it bodes well so far. There have been discoveries and rediscoveries in almost equal measure over the summer, and advance copies from far and wide indicate a sterling season ahead.
Our regular Saturday release resumes this weekend. Until then, we sincerely apologise for our deafening silence and hope you will once again join us.
