When it comes to children's literature, this delightful book, published in 1999, remains one of the great unsung. Even its publisher has disappeared. But the tale lives gloriously on.

Uncle Jack's exhortation to his niece to "Follow your uncle's advice and take to the jungle 3 cakes, 2 raisins, 1 telescope and a pair of tweezers" proves indispensable, resulting in some splendid nonsense and a highly amusing denouement.

Well worth ferreting out of the library.
