Adriana showed me this video a while ago of cat spin to this song on a tumblr page I think. It was one of the most calming things I'd ever seen and I felt all my anxiety just kind of wash away watching this little animal crossing cat fly through the air listening to this melody. After that, this song became really special to me, and it still gives me shivers when I hear it in New Horizons. I hope that I can convey the same feelings the orginal gives me to you guys with my guitar.
I opted to try and arrange both parts for one classical guitar, but it proved a bit difficult to keep it sustained since I had to jump around a lot. I knew from the start exactly how I wanted the song to develop and had these big string parts already arranged in my head. I've been really enjoying Albion One for strings and brass lately and think they worked really well here.
When I begun the arrangment, I wasn't sure which version I wanted to do between the aircheck and the K.K. versions. So in typical fasion, I just decided both and found transistioning between keys worked really nicely! Anyway, I'm always nervous to release covers in this style, but I think now more than ever it's important to remember to let yourself be vulnerable. The quarentine has everyone so tense and guarded. I hope this cover can give you a moment of peace.

Sterling by Music Man reached out to me earlier this year asking if I wanted to do a video for their new Cutlass signature model fro Jason Richardson and I was ecstatic to say yes. Jasons one of my favorite guitarists ever and to get to play with him in a video was an absolute blast. We had originally planned on doing something in person, but things with the pandemic are still so crazy that we opted to do this setup. Hopefully we can do something again in the future!
This is obviously one of the most iconic songs in video gaming so I knew if I were to ever do it, itd have to be absolutely insane and one of my favorite renditions of the theme was actually from an older tweet from Jason where he played it with a dotted 8th note delay. I thought it sounded so cool that when we were planning on something to do together I shot out the idea of doing a whole cover based around that.

This was the one cover I said I would never do.
The reason why is silly but I think it was important to an older me. I really didnt feel like I enjoyed Halo all that much growing up. I still remember playing it for the first time in a Circuit City (OLD) when it had just came out, and I was really excited to play it. I spent countless hours enjoying the multiplayer, but I really struggled to enjoy the story. The whole thing felt like such a slog to me for some reason.
In the early days of YouTube for me, I always felt like what made a cover good was the players emotional attachment to the game. I really thought you could feel it listening to someone who loved the game rather than just someone putting it out because it got views. I was so committed to making a name for myself as someone who only did songs from games I liked.
I enjoyed making this cover, and I really love this song. So its strange to think that my enjoyment of a story mode in a gmae I otherwise enjoyed barred me from doing this for so long. I really did have a blast getting to play this iconic song on guitar and add my own flair to it. Its nice to line this up with the rerelease while others are enjoying it again so it felt like a great time.

Ive had quite a time recently speedrunning this game, but rarely ever make it to this part. My stream chat however, will tell you that every time I get to the final part I get this riff stuck in my head and talk about how badly I want to cover it. Predictably so, it was so much fun to arrange and track.
I knew that this would be significantly easier to pull off than some of the other tracks Ive been doing because of the repetitvie nature of it, and since I really needed to churn something out quick this week after doing a filming project in LA this past week, this song was perfect to tackle now.
