The official Andor trailer has dropped and we need to break it down. So let’s get straight into it.
We begin the trailer with a bunch of civilians or locals on a planet watching the arrival of the empire as a star destroyer looms overhead, really just demonstrating the sheer size of the ship. And next to it are a few dots, which are the tie fighters flying alongside it. The whole scene really emphasizes the looming presence of the Empire as it spreads across countless worlds, acting as a sort of promise of what is to come.
In the next shot we get a young Cassian looking over a mine, and the destruction of the planet’s environment. This is probably a flashback to the Empire destroying Cassian’s homeworld which will eventually act as an impetus for him to join the rebellion. And based on what we know, this won’t be the last planet the empire destroys that Cassian has some sort of an attachment to. And the shot of the mining activity is really just a showcase of what the empire does to planets with important resources, with the empire stripping it bare before leaving it completely ruined.
We then get a shot of the galactic senate, the very same that we see in the prequels, and we then get a shot of an ISB agent, the ISB is of course the imperial security bureau which effectively acts as the intelligence/secret policy of the empire. And if you look closely at the jacket of the ISB agent, you can see that he has the rank of a general or admiral, placing it as one of the highest ranks within the ISB organisation.
Next, we see two officers smugly drinking from their cups, with the one on the right holding the rank of captain within the imperial navy, and the other one the rank of major in the imperial operations and research division. So it will be interesting to see how these two characters play into the bigger picture.
We then see a young cassian senaking into an imperial facility, and in the background notice a body lying on the floor. Not entirely sure who or what that person is, but judging by the way the body is positioned the person is most likely dead. Perhaps an incident occurred before hand which allows Cassian to sneak in unnoticed. We then see an older cassian dressed as an imperial officer, most likely undercover.
Luthen then approaches Cassian attempting to recruit him as a rebel fighter. Likely impressed by his skill, and urging Cassian to fight for a bigger cause. We also see clone troopers marching with phase 3 armour. And judging by their appearances, it seems like we are looking at clones with their inhibitor chips already activated due to the lack of colour on their armour. As we know from the clone wars, clone battalions would express their individuality through the use of colour and patterns painted on their armour, but following the activation of the inhibitor chip all that individual personality is somewhat loss. Which results in the return to the standard white armour. So this means that it would pu this scene well after order 66 and the events of the reven of the sith.
We then see another ISB agent by the name of dedra meero, a new character played by Denise Gough who seems to be hunting another new character also shown in the trailer, and yet to be named played by Adria Arjona. That very same character who is later stopped by the local authorities of the planet.
We then get a wide shot of a ship being torn apart, in what looks to be a scrap yard. And judging by the colour scheme this just might be a separatist frigate, as it does have the same blue and grey patterns. Then in probaby the same world we see cassian walking past piles of scrapped metal with colour schemes that do invoke the same colour scheme of the republic which is not transitioning into the empire.
We also get a look at Luther’s ship and his speeder bike, and then luther says… making it clear to us that this first Andor season will be about him recruiting people for an important mission. We even get to visit saw guerrera played by forrest whittaker, and saw guerrera’s trusty sidekick by the name of Benthic who we also swa in rogue one and really any other story relating to saw gurrera. Following Saw’s death Benthic would take up the leadership position of leading the partisans who continued to battle for the independence of Jedha, putting him in contact with the likes of luke adn leia skywalker.
We then see a platoon of soldiers holding up riot shields. Now these guys are part of th empire but they don’t belong to the stormtrooper corp. Instead these guys are considered to be the imperial army, dressed in the very same uniform as han solo was in the han solo movie.
We then see three modified LAAT’s flying in, and judging by the way they are designed, they seem to be modified to hold extra cargo, or perhaps passengers...
