Bad Batch season 2 episode 11 had a lot of different things going on, and we need to break it down, so let’s get straight into it. We begin the episode with a spaceship set adrift, pulled roughly out of hyperspace. And onboard we can hear the distant screams of the dying crew. On the screen we can read system malfunction in aurebesh as well.
We then follow the perspective of a commando and this entire scene really is horror in star wars, which is really all the more reason why we need a fully fleshed out live action star wars horror show. The commando’s elector stuff dies out and he then proceeds to get eaten by a mysterious monster. We then cut to Tantiss, the world in which the stormtrooper project is currently based. As the shuttles land, we see imperial scientists bearing the same symbol that doctor pershing has in the mandalorian. Indicating that these are imperial cloners. We are then introduced to a new villain of the story by the name of dr royce hemlock, likely taking over Rampart’s role following his untimely downfall on coruscant. Hemlock meets with Nala Se who was previously taken into imperial custody back in season 1, and he attempts to convince her to work for the Empire. And much of this conversation reveals that as much as the Empire has the resources to embark on cloning projects it really doesn’t have the necessary expertise to execute it. Dr Hemlock learns about the downed ship from earlier, and immediately sends a recovery team.
Meanwhile on the Marauder, the bad batch are unhappy with Cid for leaving them stranded and not helping out when they needed her the most, and much of this sentiment has been seeded and growing since their encounter with Millegi who previously told the crew that Cid was not to be trusted. That Cid’s loyalty only goes one way. Cid tries to act like she is making up for it by giving them a new assignment and the crew start to negotiate their pay. And pay close attention to the wrecker's face everytime Cid raises the percentage. It's just funny to see that while the other members are unhappy with lower numbers like 35 and 40%, Wrecker just seems to be happy at every first offer Cid makes (Scene). The crew manage to negotiate 50%, but have started to contemplate whether or not this would be their last job for her. Given how many times Cid has put them into trouble or taken advantage of them, it's not a far fetched thought to consider. Not to mention, the entire theme of this season so far has been about clones finding and choosing their own destiny, and everytime the team is with Cid, it does feel like they have merely exchanged the person telling them what to do from one to another.
The team land near the crash site, and begin to explore the ship. The team quickly deduce that whatever killed the crew wasn’t human, and tech decides to split from the group to check the data logs and restore power to the ship, something which Omega widely protests about. But Tech dismisses her concern, I guess they don’t have a section on horror 101 in the republic military manual. As the team continue to explore deeper into the ship, they soon realize that the equipment surrounding them is Kaminoan, something which Omega recognises. But she also points out that its slightly different from the one she is used to in Tipoca City. Tech hears the noise again and decides to check it out, only to reveal a broken down droid hiding in one of the cabinets (scene).
Wrecker inspects the scene and realizes that there is some sort of sticky substance and reinforced walls all of which suggests that it was designed to contain a creature. Hunter then soon spots saliva dripping from the ceiling which eventually reveals the creature chomping on some electrical wires absentmindedly. And this entire scene is very much reminiscent of any aliens movie really. Not to mention based on the creature design alone, it is not too dissimilar from the xenomorph, especially when it comes to its head. Omega accidentally knocks something over, and the creature soon turns its attention and Wrecker tries to use the electrostaff to keep it away. But if you think about it, using the electrostaff really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. As we later learn, the creature is attracted to electric power essentially feeding on it. So whoever’s idea was to give these commando droids electrostaff to fight against this beast was about as bright as Palpatine’s armpits...
