This map is pretty iconic in NE and is visually very impressive to look at in the classics.
Side tangent but I legit miss these kinds of maps in modern Sam. I like a giant open battlefield as much as the next Sam fan but I really miss these levels that take place inside of giant structures. Not only is it something to break up the tedium of trekking across empty spaces of nothing after getting rid of all the bad guys but having a level take place indoors somewhere also allows for a more creative approach to fight design. Also interior levels like this usually have awesome texture work and this is no exception; NE's art team really banged out some of the coolest looking Sam levels ever to grace the franchise.
So about the level. It's really fun and also allows you to collect a secret Minigun which is definitely useful but not as game changing as something like the rocket launcher from the first level or sniper rifle from praetorian camp. Speaking of which, if you're clean starting then there's no more sniper rifle despite there being ammo for it, though at the very least you have the grenade launcher officially which can help with taking out some beefier opponents.
Also this level features a very stupid secret idk how you're supposed to know about unless you look up a guide. Not to throw shade on Mkbewe but I'm almost convinced that he made this secret just so you would look at his guide to figure out what it is. Even then he doesn't mention how to get it and I had to painstakingly go frame by frame until the secret text appeared so I could read what it said.
So the secret in question requires following a very specific path once you get to the final room containing the statue of Neptune that you need to place the pearl eyes on. Basically what you have to do is not take any shortcuts, so don't jump into the water below and don't take any of the teleporters the level gives you. The elevators are the only way to go up and down between floors and each time you take one a frog spawns to let you know that you're still on track to completing the secret.
Idk what possessed him to add this secret to the level. You might think that it's to ensure you trigger all of the enemy spawners so you can get all the kills but even this isn't the case as no matter how many times I tried I always end the level missing exactly one kill. It's honestly such a mind bogglingly dumb secret but at least now you know how to get it. Oh, what also sucks is you won't even know if you got the secret until the very end of the level where a confirmation appears literally inches away from touching the exit trigger. If you want that confirmation you have to very slowly walk forward towards the exit until you hear the secret sound and see the message confirming it.
Sorry, I know the last 3 paragraphs are me just ranting about how stupid of a secret it is but it really pissed me off for some reason and I had to vent about it even if I'm the only one who even reads these long ass descriptions I type. Venting is good for the soul, I think?
Thanks again for watching and as always, stay Serious!
