Our time together will be sweet. — The Circles of the Moon

In old Greece, the fates of youths lay not in their hands to choose their life partner. Thus birthed a tapestry of folk songs, each weaving tales of their passionate struggle to catch a glimpse of their forbidden love, a lyrical defiance against the constraints of destiny.
"The Circles of the Moon" is a folk love song originating from Northern Greece. It is performed here by Athena Katsanevaki and Eleni Eljona Sinjari on vocals, along with Theodore Koumartzis on a Lyre of Olympus, masterfully handcrafted in Greece by the LUTHIEROS family.

🇬🇧 Lyrics in English

A basil I'll become at your window
and I'll stay single for your sake.

The moon lights my love's door
Making circles in my love's garden.

Come out to your window, sneak away from your mother
and pretend to water your marjoram.

The moon lights your door
Making circles in your garden.

You on the window, and me dawning in the tavern,
Throwing hazelnuts to you to spare me a glimpse.

Come, come with me
our time together will be sweet.

🇬🇷 Original Lyrics in Greek
Original title "Βασιλικός θα 'γίνω" (eng. "A basil I'll become")
