In 1953, General Motors wanted to jumpstart consumer enthusiasm for its new cars. The auto shows hadn't started back up after World War II (WWII), so they decided to take matters into their own hands. They staged a series of events dubbed the Motorarama, and launched at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Here, thousands of people could see the new cars, and also some dream cars whipped up by GM's master of fantasy, design chief, Harley Earl. It was quite an undertaking to squeeze an auto show into the Waldorf, but it paid off as the show stirred up excitement and generated countless news articles that spread the word across the country. Watch as classic concept cars, the LeSabre, the XP 300 and other cars are buffed, prepped, and moved into the Waldorf Astoria hotel, and GM sets the stage for the January 1953 Motorama show in New York City, forever etching this grand event into the annals of automotive history.
