There have been many attempts at slimmed-down, "easy" video editors that make the process of joining and trimming video clips simple enough that anyone can do such a thing. Offerings from the likes of Sony and Corel come to mind first, although Honestech's Easy Video Editor 3.0 attempts to accomplish the same thing--simplify the editing process in such a way that anyone can join, split, trim; and add titles, music, and transitions to their videos.
I understand what they were trying to accomplish and the program's intended audience, but many of its features aren't immediately known or self-explanatory. Despite my having used a variety of other, more well-known editors, I still had difficulty figuring out different aspects of this program.
Finite control of a video's render settings notwithstanding, its inability to change the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 doesn't make much sense, seeing as how the majority of video cameras presently on the market record widescreen video!
Honestech has made several video related applications in the past, and Easy Video Editor 3.0 is one of many in their software repertoire. Considering that the MSRP of the program is $39.99, and that Windows Movie Maker is more capable and, with some debate, more intuitive, I don't see the use or need for such a locked down and over-simplified program. Even Windows Movie Maker gets the aspect ratio correct and doesn't crash when trying to carry out basic functions (most of the time, at least)!
