Amtrak's Dash-8 locomotives, model number P38-8BWH, were built in 1991 to fill in a gap in motive power for the company prior to the production of the GE Genesis series. For their first decade of service with Amtrak, the Dash-8s were regularly seen pulling revenue trains across the Western United States. Into the early 2000s, their appearance on passenger trains decreased significantly, as many of the locomotives were relegated to work trains and yard switching. In this video, we will take a look at Amtrak Dash-8s in service on the Coast Starlight over the last several years. First, we will see locomotive 507 in California and Washington leading the Coast Starlight in the fall of 2018. We will then see locomotive 510 on two different occasions in 2020 and 2022.
