Here is a collection of video and images I captured in May 2020. Amtrak's Southwest Chief No. 4 was running with a limited number of cars due to the low ridership during the pandemic. usually you might see ten or more cars, but they were down to five.
The train is due at 5:23am in Winslow. I captured the train in a few different locations. I always enjoyed going on my early morning bike rides along route 66 which is next to the tracks. Photographing the trains has given me a diversion and something to do to help relax me through this pandemic.
Winslow has a population of about 10,000 people. It is 53 miles east of Flagstaff, AZ. The Navajo Indian reservation is only a few miles north of Winslow. Conditions on the REZ are very poor, and yes there is a lot of Covid-19 in the area. You may have seen it on the news. One out of every 42 residents on the REZ have the virus and it's getting worse. They don't have access to many of the things we take for granted. They don't have much PPE, nor running water waste. They don't have internet and access the daily news. Many don't know what's going on until they get sick and are brought to the hospitals that are in bigger communities. I wish them well, and I hope we all can get through this.
Trains and Music has always been a huge part of my life. I'd love to get a high quality video camera to record the essence of Winslow like I really want while I'm here.
At the end of this video I have listed some of my many eBook titles on Amazon.com. I look back and can't believe how many of them I put together. You will see some picture books with images of trains by my late great friend Harv Kahn. He gave me permission to publish them before he passed away. I also have several of my own titles.
