As part of Allen’s 150th anniversary celebration, the Allen Public Library hosted a powerful conversation featuring African Americans who grew up in Allen during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.
During the program, panelists reflected on what life was like as Allen transitioned from a small rural town into the rapidly growing city it would become. Through personal stories and firsthand memories, they discussed education, employment, community influences, entertainment, local heroes, challenges they faced, and the legacy they hope to leave behind.
The discussion helped preserve an important part of Allen’s history through the voices of the people who lived it.
The program was presented as part of the City of Allen’s 150th celebration and was sponsored by the Allen Public Library.
