Yesterday's episode of season 4 was actually the first one that didn't make me cry this season! (cute little Aithusa is the best thing ever *w*)
But 4x03...I can't properly express my feelings for that episode, I just knew I needed to vid it. After seasons spent hating Uther and his blind hatred towards magic and his awful decisions and wrongdoings being the very reason of everything problematic that happens in Merlin, I would've never thought that his death would sadden me, but it actually happened. He was a man with many flaws, but in the end died a honorable death, saving the only thing he's ever loved and did it all for: his son.
Speaking of which: Bradley's acting keeps surprising me with how much he's grown artistically since season 1, and his tears keep getting me emotional! All his scenes with Anthony were so powerful this season, so I just had to pay homage to them in some way. I think this part of the song is so fitting for how Arthur feels towards Uther in this episode: he can't accept that he's dying, and right now he only knows that he loved him, despite all the pain and suffering he caused to others and even Arthur himself (lying to him about his mother's fate, etc.). In his father's final moments, all that was done was forgiven by Arthur.
The ending got quite inspired by Estaaaas's beautiful vid about the episode:

This past couple of months running up to the discussion of my bachelors degree thesis (which is going to be in two weeks time and I have scarcely realized it yet akdsjfhfdh) have possibly been the most mental in the history of insane uni/work weeks (with the current week taking the cake in levels of schedule insanity x.x); however, I was always determined to draw up at least one project for Elles (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCEGsb6LRFX7dAVyWhKJSvLQ) wonderful #OCtober a series of prompts, one per October day, all dedicated to vidding original characters; you can find the complete list on Elles channel and this is my attempt to fulfil that resolution. As for this video: todays prompt was villain, and how could I resist really?
So meet Ayl: ice-wielder and shapeshifter extraordinaire from my Ibnàri stories whose beginnings can be found in my older protectors of Sìr video (https://youtu.be/5vtpfC2RogQ) and one of the main characters Nàr encounters after leaving her mothers forest.
He is more antihero than villain in my mind; but he and Nàr first meet as enemies, and villain is certainly how he views himself when she first meets him.
Story points referenced in this video:
→ Ayl is a mortal/immortal halfling like Nàr, but with the misfortune of being born of a much less loving union. His father is a cunning, rather merciless mountain spirit with a huge vendetta against the kingdom bordering with his domain. Ayl was not raised by him, unlike Nàr with her forest spirit mother Mazarië, but as he grew up he could always sense a cold, chilling presence in his wake, patiently observing his every move.
→ He can shapeshift into white animals of different kinds; the stag was ever his favourite since he first met his beloved while in that form.
→ While shapeshifting always came as easy as breathing to him, his ice powers are a different story. The one time he lost control over them, it was a terrible accident that cost the one he loved her very life (or that is what he believes happened, at least...). He then pledged himself to his fathers questionable bidding in the hopes of learning how to master them from him, thinking himself an out-of-control monster.
→ As the only two existing halflings they know of, and with Nàrs own fire powers acting up ever since Haleths demise, the two share a wary, unwilling understanding of each other.
Notable cameos: Ysmael (Uli Latukefu), Nàrs first and main companion who has a lot of backstory himself that I hope to eventually get to vid too, along with my main girl.
This video is also quite different from Protectors I tried experimenting with texts and overlays more and I have to say Im rather happy ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶b̶l̶o̶o̶d̶y̶ ̶o̶n̶c̶e̶ about some discoveries I made, so I might keep vidding these lovely people in this fashion. As always, would love anyones opinion on this, and hope to be back posting sooner rather than later once rl madness subsides a little!

Trying to remind myself that I can actually (hopefully) vid. This university year has been beyond crazy, with June being the worst of it so crazy that I have to resort to uploading from Germany (where I am staying for the upcoming month) to finally vaguely look like Im still active on this channel. During the last few months the idea of vidding was only adding more stress and anxiety to the rest of the load (until it morphed into downright vidders block), so I ultimately decided to keep away from Youtube for a while. A thousand apologies if I have disappeared on you for collabs or if I have left comments without reply. Ill try to rectify the latter these days a bit, wenn ich nicht spazieren gehe!
That said...Episode IX and these two (but most of all a deserving conclusive arc for Ben) are basically all Im going to ask for my next Christmas. I have had SO many fandoms I loved disappoint me to bitterness over this last year (yes, GOT and VLD, I am looking at you both) and I dont think I would take it well if SW turned out to be the umpteenth fandom passing on the dreadful message that your past defines what youll end up being and that people cant really change for the better. This saga has always been about compassion and forgiveness and doing the right thing when it matters most, and it would honestly just be completely out of character if it did. In any case, IX is going to be epic (PALPATINE. IS. BACK. AND THAT ALONE IS REASON TO PANIC) and I cant wait for December to arrive!
I have been wanting to vid these two again forever after TLJ, but I feel like they encompass so many themes that I will never possibly give them the justice they deserve (plus, there are already SO many mesmerizing Reylo edits around). Hopefully some of my favourite themes (unmasking each other, their perception about one another continuously being challenged and evolving, plus the obvious visual specularities and gorgeous red vs. blue colour scheme a lot of their scenes have) come through in the video. I was 99% sure my first video of 2018 (or anything I happened to post on ship day aka St. Valentines) would be something Reylo, with all the meat TLJ handed us fans...but no after some dreadful hard disk issues (every vidders best friend, am I right?), exam exhaustion (but some personal gratification too, freaking finally) and all in all the fullest January in recent years, have some Gisabel feels instead.
Bless Baraou No Souretsu (or Requiem of the Rose King), Aya Kannos WOTR/RIII-themed manga, for finally giving me a worthy depiction of the other York/Neville OTP (despite some other...lets just say weird ships and plot solutions, but this is supposed to be a historical *and* fantasy manga after all). Leafing through the latest scans and finding such heartfelt drawings of George/Isabel, particularly in their final chapters [HOW DARE YOU GIVING THEM THE RICHANNE HUG THOUGH, AYA, MY FEELS WERE NOT READY] honestly warmed my heart, because I always have a bone to pick with Ricardian authors (and not only PG) who invariably have to write George as a Jerk™ in all aspects of his life (as if he was incapable at all of positive emotions), and portray this successful marriage as an abusive relationship (or alternatively, they sometimes make Isabel into a Jerk™ too, and I dont know which pisses me off more ^^). If anything, Ive always thought that the fact that he seemed to go crazy again right after Isabels death after years of relatively amicable relations with Edward, coupled with the fact that hes actually the only one of the York brothers with no reported bastard children (and all this despite his notoriously fickle political loyalties), actually speaks a lot more in favour of him caring about Isabel than the contrary. So what I tried to capture here, combining the two media (and some added scenes/VOs from here and there), is a depiction of this pairing as what I think they could have been if their romantic potential had been used properly in TWQ a husband and wife who care for each other, but whose position and ambition got in the way and ultimately ruined their happiness together.

It also seems TWQ has officially become experimental territory for me this time I tried my hand at MMV-editing style (adding so much respect for MMV editors to the amount I already had, because masking and animating all the scans is SO much work T.T), and I would very much like to hear your thoughts about it. I kinda enjoyed the change in styles!

They say sufferings are misfortunes. When our lives are knocked off course we imagine everything in them is lost...but it is only the start of something new, and good.
My enemy...he was hurt, and I was hurt, and I found that I loved him too.
Theme: we all fall down for different reasons - power, love, fate; but in suffering we are all equals, and sometimes through suffering we can find common ground with the ones we least expect, and new beginnings too.
First video I made as a participant of the Hogwarts Contest! I am very excited to be a part of this, because it is the occasion for me to try new things; and this challenge already made me experiment it seems, because this turned into my very first multifandom video - something I was always scared to attempt because having to organize so many different fandoms and knowing which clips to put where without them seeming randomly thrown together always felt quite difficult to me. I had a theme in mind for this video and I tried to stick to it...you tell me if I was successful or not ^-^
Anyway, this was made for the One Effect Challenge, and my chosen effect was Gaussian Blur, since its by far the one Im most comfortable using, its a very versatile effect and its the one I truly cant imagine making a video without.
{Also, I feel a wide-ranging multifandom video be a perfect way to celebrate the fact that I have recently hit 1700+ subscribers thats a CRAZILY huge number, and I couldnt be more humbled that still more people keep coming to the channel and enjoying my vids. Im thinking of hosting another collab (a crossover/AU one, because theyre kind of scarce on this channel to my taste) as a small celebration, so if youre interested stay tuned for that around the end of this month :)}

What does one do with an undervidded film packed with dynamic, visually stunning action/running scenes?
They finally get the chance to make the Run Boy Run edit theyve always wanted to make, of course...
Yes, Im still not over enthusing about JZ and how wonderfully entertaining it is to edit with it. While my first video about it was more of a quiet, meditative piece about the core relationship and themes, this one is pure action and fun bent to character study-ish purposes. So many of the scenes and visuals I included this time were not in Find You at all, which is really all there is to say about the many facets the film has to offer! Jiang Ziya may have the kindest, most compassionate heart and I love him for it, but he is also a fiercely badass warrior with a magically glowing sword-turned-staff, and you can bet he damn well knows how to use it to defend against demons and corrupted heavenly beings alike.
(And speaking of demons: I just cant get over how both the Chinese and American actresses absolutely *kill* it as Jiuwei/Nine-Tailed. Both line deliveries 100% nail her chaotic, vengeful maliciousness and are downright bone-chilling to listen to, in the very best way.)

Originally made for MVT round 2.
In my assigned group for this round we had to focus on putting emotion in our vids, and using some of the shows sadder moments. I decided to focus in particular onto the reasons of sadness in my favourite characters journey through the series...because if Merlins journey isnt heartbreaking in your books (and especially with Colins perfect portrayal of all of his emotions punching you in the gut as if they were your own ç ç), I dont know what could be.
He has to struggle with his gifts and the ban on magic and seeing his kin persecuted and even helping in doing so, and then has to let go of everyone he cares about, seeing them all die in his arms; and more often than not, no one will notice his pain, because he always has a smile for everyone and tries to be strong for everyone, for Camelot, for Arthur. And through it all, he always gets up again, and goes on, because he believes in his Once and Future King and in the destiny they share...and in the end, even his only focus and his truest friend are stolen from him and hes left with absolutely nothing but regret and grief...and for all eternity. NOW TELL ME AGAIN IF THAT FINALE WAS ANY FAIR ; ;

Have you ever seen a leaf fall off a tree?
[SPOILERS for the end of the film!]
I dont like how this video has come out at ALL, but I guess Im still posting it because I didnt want to go away on holiday for a month without a new upload, and because I needed to share my feelings for this beautiful, compelling film. So sorry its so sad too, I started it while in the middle of a couple of bad days that are thankfully far over now, especially since Im travelling to my beloved Africa in less than three days and I refuse to have that spoiled. But I digress.
Anyway, Parked! I received the DVD for my upcoming birthday because everyone knows my love for Colin by now! I was all too keen to watch just because of him, but I actually found myself falling in love with every aspect of this film. It is a very touching story, about friendship and finding hope and new beginnings even in the most desperate of situations; and the main cast does a fabulous job in bringing it to life. Colm Meaney is just perfect in Freds role, and Colin...well, he is simply outstanding as always. He has this way of conveying emotions so powerfully, you cant help but feeling them all as if they were your very own. He always puts so much into every character he plays that you no longer see the actor, but just the characters themselves, as if they were alive and real. He really is a gem and his art pretty much one of the very best thing Merlin ever brought to my knowledge.
Last but not least, I found myself loving the direction too, with all those clever close-ups and camera angles and the fantabulous lighting. Im definitely checking Darragh Byrnes other works after this!
The video focuses around the unlikely but unique friendship that develops between Fred and Cathal. At the beginning Fred is lonely and quite desperate, with no hope for a better future, but then Cathal arrives and with his cheery attitude he helps him re-discover the beautiful side of life, which is what the leaf quote at the beginning alludes to. However, while Fred finally manages to sort his life once more, he cant help but be a witness to Cathals self-destructive descent into suffering and addiction. Ill just say that by the end of the film I was in a puddle of tears ç ç but in spite of the sadness (which is not the only aspect of the film, I promise, even if judging from this video it might look like it) the film is actually very light-hearted, especially with the crazy stuff these two do together :)
I absolutely think this film is worth it all, its just one of those films that leaves you with a message and stays with you for a long time, and now it has become one of my favourites. I needed to pour all my feelings out and vidding was the perfect outlet for that ^-^
