Speed Graphic Film and Video | All Aboard for California in the 1950's @SpeedGraphicFilmVideo | Uploaded June 2019 | Updated October 2024, 5 minutes ago.
The scenes in this video were shot in the 1950's by Golden Gate Films, a maker of educational films. This raw footage was shot on board various trains in California. No information on date or place came with the film, so the following descriptions are just inferences. If you can identify any locations, please leave a comment.
0:10 The first segment appears to have been shot aboard a Union Pacific passenger train. The fact that it is being pulled by Southern Pacific diesel locomotives suggests that it's somewhere on the Overland Route.
1:21 The second segment appears to have been taken in southern California from a passenger train.
2:03 This segment is shot from the rear of a train. Again, appears to be southern California. The long trestle at 2:44 ought to be identifiable, but I don't know California well enough to say where it is. At 4:20 there's a station sign for Gateley, which is on the AT&SF near San Pablo Bay.
4:44 A series of shots taken in the cab of what appears to be a Santa Fe EMD diesel.
7:12 Aboard a passenger train again, this on on the Santa Fe. Scenes in the diner as well as from a dome car.
The original film is silent, so I've added a generic sound loop to it.
