Alkali Metals: Group 1
Atomic Structure: One valence electron (very easy to lose, forming +1 ions)

Reactivity: Extremely reactive, especially with water which can cause explosions.
Unique Features:
Soft enough to be cut with a knife
Example: Sodium (Na)
Low melting points compared to most metals

Uses:
Lithium in batteries
Sodium vapor lamps
Potassium in fertilizers
