April 2, 2015 - As the 2014-15 season neared its end, the Capitals found themselves facing off against the Montreal Canadiens and that season's eventual MVP Carey Price. Ovechkin was fresh off scoring his 50th goal of the season in the prior game, but his next goal would be even more historic. Late in the second period on a powerplay, Ovi would cut down the left wing and evade a defender before unleashing his signature wrist shot through a screen. His 51st goal of the season was his 473rd career goal - breaking a tie with Capitals legend Peter Bondra for the most goals in Capitals franchise history. He would add to his total in the third period, marking his 15th multi-goal game of the season, a career-high, and the 100th multi-goal game of his career. Though he was not able to beat Carey Price for a third time in the shootout, the Capitals came away with a key victory which also happened to be head coach Barry Trotz's 600th career win. Ovechkin has since gone on to nearly double his career goal total, putting his franchise record out of reach for the foreseeable future and setting a new NHL record for the most goals scored with one franchise.
