Speaking with reporters in Calgary, Premier Danielle Smith announces that as of July 31, 2026, Albertans will be able self-refer and pay out of pocket for preventative health screening such as MRIs, CT scans, x-rays and ultrasounds.

The premier is joined by Justin Wright (Alberta minister of primary and preventative health services), Robert Davies (medical director, radiologist, Canada Diagnostic Centres), Brenda Hubley (chair and managing director, Cancer Care Alberta).
