On Sunday, July 13, at 2:05 p.m., South Metro Fire Rescue (SMFR) and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a rapidly moving wildland fire in the wildland-urban interface near Highway 85 and Titan Parkway.
The fire spread along the railroad tracks from Highlands Ranch Parkway south through the town of Louviers, stopping just north of Airport Road. Initial mapping estimates the fire at approximately 130 acres, with updated data pending from the state’s multi-mission aircraft. The fire is currently 90% contained.
Approximately 140 personnel from seven agencies responded, including mutual aid from West Metro Fire Rescue, Jackson 105, Franktown, Castle Rock Fire, and aerial support from Douglas County’s Emergency Services Unit. Two helicopters, including Douglas County’s Five Tango Alpha, conducted multiple water drops, with one aircraft completing five to six drops late into the evening. A bulldozer was also deployed to help reinforce containment lines.
A CodeRED evacuation was issued for the town of Louviers. No structures were lost, and the evacuation order was lifted just before 7:00 p.m. All residents have returned home safely. Overnight rainfall assisted fire crews, who continue working today to strengthen containment lines and extinguish hotspots.
