My first longhaul flight with Air Canada from Vancouver to London Heathrow on Feb 10th 2024. Was operated by a 10 year old 777-300. I wasn't entirely sure what my view would be like from seat 19A but I was really pleased to see I was just ahead of the monsterous GE90 engine. Unfortunately departure from Vancouver was in the dark, but still the views of the airport and city as we climb out are pretty good, not the mention to incredible engine sound. Definitely worth turning the volume up for.
Now I have to say, I was not impressed with Air Canada. The meal was service was slow! The crew seemed rather disorganised and the flight wasn't full, plenty of empty seats throughout the cabin, yet the evening meal service took over 2.5 hours! I was struggling to stay awake but still my tray hadn't been collected, it was a little tedious to say the least. Now having just had a layover in Vancouver, from an Air New Zealand flight the IFE system on this Air Canada was really poor in comparison. Not a huge variety of movies to choose from that I've seen on other carriers and the map was glitchy and not a free roaming map.
Now breakfast, was hugely disappointing. A slice of banana bread & a yoghurt. That was it. On a flight from the West Coast to London. That was it. I was expecting something more substantial. It wasn't even served on a tray! Was quite shocked to say the least. Overall I have to say I wouldn't go out of my way, to choose Air Canada again.
Externally, some beautiful lighting during the sunrise over the Atlantic, illuminating the GE90 engine. Then during the descent and approach into Heathrow some stunning scenery and lots of landmarks and points of interest to look out for before landing on 27L.
