The Gurpreet Dhaliwal Master Clinician Visiting Professorship Lecture
This Grand Rounds will examine how clinical reasoning is taught and evaluated, as well as how artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to reshape both domains. The session will explore strategies to reduce diagnostic error, highlight emerging AI-enabled tools for education and assessment, and outline practical next steps for integrating these methods into training. Attendees will gain a clearer framework for strengthening clinical reasoning in an evolving, technology-enabled landscape.
We established this annual Master Clinician Visiting Professorship to recognize the contributions of our many Master Clinicians in the DOM, especially our newest inductees: Michelle Guy, Raymond Hsu, Vivek Jain, Scott Steiger, and Sunny Wang. The visiting professor delivers the Gurpreet Dhaliwal Lecture in Medicine, named for our legendary clinician-educator and Master Clinician, Gurpreet Dhaliwal.
Speaker:
Verity Schaye, MD, MHPE, is an associate professor of medicine at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine and a hospitalist at Bellevue Hospital. She serves as the assistant dean for education in the clinical sciences and as the assistant director for curricular innovation at NYU’s Institute for Innovations in Medical Education. Schaye is a 2024–2025 National Academy of Medicine Scholar in Diagnostic Excellence.
