If an LLM only predicts the next word, how on earth can an AI agent count thousands of reviews and calculate an average?
Here's the honest answer: the LLM doesn't count. It writes a small program, runs that program on your computer, and reads the answer. The language model works out what needs to be calculated; deterministic code does the arithmetic.
So whenever AI gives you a number, ask how it got there. If it can show you the script and logic, excellent. If it says it worked things out while reading, be suspicious and verify it yourself.
