The Meditating Philosopher | After Socrates' Ecology of Practices : Humble Wonder | Episode 2 @TheMeditatingPhilosopher | Uploaded January 2023 | Updated October 2024, 8 hours ago.
In Episode 2 John shares many insights into the imaginal as a part of the psyche/soul that can help us move towards our aspirational selves as well as open up aspects of the world to us in profound and real ways.
_______
Humble Wonder
Context: Wonder isn't about missing information, that’s curiosity.
Start with 2-3 minutes of meditation.
Bring your awareness to your heart.
Turn your hands inwards.
Say as mindfully as you can “There is so much I do not know about myself because of all of the facts (about myself)”.
“There is so much I do not know about my mind, my psyche, my body (because of combinatorial explosion)”.
“There is so much I will never know about myself because of my fate (particular people, places and events that I do not control)”.
“There is so much I refuse to see about myself because of all of my foolishness (all the processes that make us intelligent, make us also beset by self-deception; how often, be honest, (not in thought and belief) but in how I participate in my self and perspective;”.
Instead of how you might see it, how a friend might see it.
There’s so much I’m unable to see about myself from all my faults.
Turn your hands outwards
There’s so much i don’t know about the world because of all of the facts.
There’s so much i shall never know because of all of the fate.
There’s so much i refuse about the world because of all of my foolishness.
There’s so much i am unable to see about the world from all of my faults.
Do the next step at least 4 times to get a sense of the wonder and receptivity interpenetrating.
As I inhale - “I wonder”
As I exhale - “I am open to receiving from the depths of the world and the depths of my psyche”
