The Meditating Philosopher | Beside After Socrates /w Layman Pascal & Bruce Alderman | Part 4 | On Episodes 8 + JV Jeopardy @TheMeditatingPhilosopher | Uploaded February 2023 | Updated October 2024, 9 hours ago.
Layman Pascal, Bruce Alderman, and I discuss a variety of topics related to personal growth and psychological theory. We also read a Hymn to Zeus!

We explore the translation of ancient Greek names into modern English, the importance of archetype stories and myths in training the psyche, and the complexities and nuances involved in understanding the self and the various factors that shape it.

We also delve into concepts such as sacred autonomy, creating adjacency, and the integration of different parts of oneself.

By the end of the first hour, we discuss the creation of Tulpas, which originated in Tibetan Buddhism and are semi-autonomous imaginal entities that can serve various functions, but caution against the dangers of playing with them lightly.

In the second hour, we discuss various strategies for dealing with spiritual emergencies and achieving inner balance. We stress the importance of grounding exercises, physical activity, and sensory-rich environments, particularly in childhood.

Layman, Bruce, and I also delve into the importance of engaging with the environment to help with focus and suggest incorporating rest and play into one's spiritual practice.

Additionally, we discuss the importance of discipline and purposeless slowness, emphasizing the need for balance between effort and rest.

Ultimately, we conclude by expressing our appreciation for our discussion and how it has stimulated our thinking about various topics related to spirituality and personal growth.
