In this quick video tutorial from 2Dgameartguru.com I will create simple starburst effects in Affinity Designer.
I will show two different approaches - one based on a star shape, the other on a cog shape. By adding variation to the spacing and positioning of the rays, adding blur, and different layer blend modes the results come close to realistic starburst effects.
Most of the functionality shown in the video can be created with other software tools such as Adobe's Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Inkscape with minor alterations and different names for the tools used.
