We all adapt to different situations. We act differently around our parents than our friends. But for neurodivergent people, it’s not just “adjusting”—it’s navigating a world where the rules don’t fit. Imagine driving a car that’s not street-legal while constantly being watched by the police.

Sound stressful? That’s the reality of masking, why we mask. But the drawback is this is what masking really feels like and why it’s so much more than “acting differently.”

VD: The video features two characters played by Jeremy, a white, non-binary, masc-presenting person with short blonde hair. The two characters have a conversation in a home. The first character is a masc-presenting person wearing an red and aqua checkered flannel shirt. The second character is a femme-presenting person with a blue dress and big glasses.
