Early reports I am hearing are stating that Infinity Ward are exploring the possibility of rebooting the Modern Warfare series, the proposed idea is to take Modern Warfare 1, 2 & 3 and putting the Campaigns together all as one, re-told, but combining everything. This then speculates the Multiplayer, it likely won’t feature EVERY map, but possibly 10 or so of the most popular maps spanning all three games, and obviously a lot of new maps.
This report doesn’t surprise me in the least, back in the spring of 2012, Infinity Ward was tinkering with the idea of rebooting the first Modern Warfare, but also wanted to re-do MW2, then by fall of 2012 the first report came in stating that the idea had been pitched to eventually rboot the whole series into one game itself.
The next Call of Duty game that will be created by Infinity Ward will be in 2016, giving them at least 24 months to create the game, unlike the standard 15 or so months, and if it is a retelling of the Modern Warfare series, all they have to do is touch it up for the new Generation consoles and fix some of the issues they have had spanning the series.
In this same report it tells us that Raven Software will also be returning for the next Infinity Ward Call of Duty as well as Neversoft & Certain Affinity. Neversoft was responsible for doing the Extinction game mode on Call of Duty Ghosts, Certain Affinity & Raven Software were responsible for the Multiplayer as well as Squads mode for Ghosts.
I believe that Certain Affinity and Infinity Ward will focus mainly on the Multiplayer, Infinity Ward will also do the Campaign, Neversoft & Raven Software will likely be in charge of the Special Operations section of the next game, as well maybe a new unique game mode all together, possibly Extinction will stay along with Infinity Ward and became a staple, like Zombies has been the staple for Treyarch.
More than anything I want the AA-12, the FMG-9 & SMAW guns/launchers to return to the game, as well as the AC-130 & the Harrier Jump Jet Support. For the maps, these are what I believe the 10 maps would be that would return:
Dome (MW3)
Favela (MW2)
Downpour (MW1)
Hardhat (MW3)
Highrise (MW2)
Mission (MW3)
Scrapyard (MW2)
Shipment (MW1)
Skidrow (MW2)
Terminal (MW3)
