So there's been some news on another Call of Duty series, Sledgehammer is rumored to be picking up the Modern Warfare series. This leads to speculation about a new COD game every 3 years from Infinity Ward & Treyarch, with the addition of Sledgehammer games. I need to explain a lot of this.
Sledgehammer games has been wanting to do an RPG version of COD since the end of 2009, Infinity Ward worked together on MW3 to teach Sledgehammer how the world of COD works, so to speak.
Infinity Ward has gone through two major splits since the release of MW2, one group is now called Respawn Entertainment the other is Robotoki. Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward have a working agreement together, and it wouldn't really surprise me if the two different groups merge together.
It's likely that there will be a COD RPG game, it has been in the "works" with script writing and so forth since 2011, whether it is something that WILL come out is yet unknown, it may just be a "Arcade" game you can buy for $10.00 online or something like that.
Then people say that there has been no new engine because they don't have the time to create one AND a new game at the same time, again, this is inaccurate. Infinity Ward went to Activision before MW3 and requested that a new engine came into play for MW3, but Activision didn't want a new engine to power COD until the new systems come out. There is a new engine for the XBOX ONE and the PS4, it's not that Infinity Ward and Treyarch didn't want a new engine, it's just that Activision didn't want it.
Another possibility is that Treyarch will just stop with the typical COD game and just make a Zombies version of the game, and if this happens it'd likely be added to a Infinity Ward game. Treyarch games feature more Zombies players than typical multiplayer fans.
I could see an Infinity Ward game come out with a second disc, this second disc containing Treyarch's Zombies modes and storylines. Would a COD FPS/RPG game be a success? I think it's quite likely, as Activision is well aware of, RPG is the second biggest game genre behind FPS, that is partly why they bought Blizzard Entertainment, the creators of World of Warcraft.
So let's recap here, I think it would be best if Infinity Ward and Treyarch worked together on a game, mainly a typical Infinity Ward game with a Zombies mode that is really in-depth. Then, Sledgehammer games comes out with a FPS/RPG COD game to grab even more fans, that would be the smartest thing to do, Activision/Blizzard would have the biggest genres come together, and a lot of the money right there.
Again, to me, this is the best idea for Activision/Blizzard and the creators, Infinity Ward/Treyarch/Sledgehammer.
On a side note I think if Titanfall does well, the second one could be powered by Frostbite 3 engine, right now it is being powered by an engine that is 10 years old, I would like to see Titanfall do really well since the best creators of MW & MW2 created it, I want it to do well, it's another answer from EA against COD, that with Battlefield. The only thing that would make it better would be the return of Medal of Honor.
