Is it possible to maintain the same depth of abiding in being we experience during meditation while simultaneously connecting with people in everyday interactions? Can we remain deeply grounded in our true nature when engaging in conversation with others or doing other things?

Rupert says: ‘In our meditation sessions, we turn our attention away from the content of experience and give it exclusively to being – abiding in that, as that. When we’re having a conversation with someone, we give our attention to the person we’re speaking to, and as a result our being seems to recede into the background. For most people, their being seems to disappear completely as if the entire content of their experience consists of the conversation.

‘In this approach, we continue to give our attention to our experience or to the person we’re talking to, but we remain in touch with our being – we feel it first in the background, but then it overflows into the foreground, and we find that, gradually over time, experience loses its capacity to obscure being, because being is not limited to and located in the body – it’s shared.’
