In all seriousness, though. The other day I was giving a guest lecture in a graduate music technology symposium, and I was asked what my favorite and most versatile piece of gear is in my studio...
I am super lucky to have been able to try a ton of different instruments, and there are many that I absolutely love (so this is not an easy question to answer...)
But at the end of the day, I think I find the largest amount of joy and pure creativity in my sound design & music making by simply using my microphone, computer, and random stuff I find lying around the house.
Have you even tried sampling your blender? Or cutlery drawer? Or the funny squeak your front door makes? Or your dog's chew toy??
If not... I highly recommend. 😆
SO much of my music is created by sampling random objects and then running them into my DAW, into FX pedals / plugins, chopping them up, reversing them, speed shifting them, etc...
This is where I started with electronic music BEFORE I had access to the instruments / gear I have now, and it's what I'm fairly positive I'll continue to explore for years to come.
(but to be clear, I ❤️ my synths too).
