Briella Holmes was only three years old when a normal day at a babysitter’s home became every parent’s worst nightmare. Police say Briella and a sibling were downstairs playing with a wooden toy kitchen while the babysitter’s spouse was upstairs checking on them periodically. A sibling told investigators toys had fallen inside the play kitchen, and Briella became trapped while trying to get them back.
Briella was found unresponsive and not breathing on July 23, 2026. She died four days later, on July 27. The medical examiner ruled her death probable positional asphyxia and classified it as an accident.
But police later released a photo of the play kitchen, and CBS12 reported the set appeared to be missing the sink insert or bowl. Police have not said whether that missing piece caused Briella to become trapped. They have also not announced criminal charges. The investigation remains active.
