Tonight on Hillbilly Crime, we update the Baby Lylah case out of Pulaski County, Kentucky, after a family update said she has opened her eyes and may face a long recovery involving brain bleeds, possible loss of speech or walking skills, and more time on a ventilator.
We also look at the public allegations against Jack D. Kelsay, who has been charged with first-degree assault and first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12, and we separate confirmed court/reporting information from Facebook claims.
Then we widen the lens: Kentucky’s Child Fatality and Near Fatality External Review Panel reviewed 248 serious cases in state fiscal year 2024: 72 fatalities and 176 near fatalities. The panel found 81% were potentially preventable, and 82% involved children age 4 or younger.
We are going through what those numbers mean, what patterns show up, and why these cases cannot just become one more viral post.
