At the heart of the smearing of Michael Moore's movie Sicko is a story with roots that run deep and stretch wide, and the grand irony is that their genesis is in the same problem that Sicko, and other activism, was highlighting--corrupt institutions and decoupled profit motive.
It is predicating a system designed to save lives and maintain health on profit motive rather than actually preserving life as its primary Mission Objective that is the core rational, and moral, concern of those who speak for universal healthcare, and something that those who speak against it just don't get. It was this same incentive that fueled a propaganda campaign that spanned institutions, and wove them together under a single project: Smear Michael Moore's film, and demonize in any way, any form of national healthcare, at whatever cost.
You may have seen this story before, you may not, but I felt it was important. I don't know if the irony of it will be lost on some people. Others will be so familiar with it, that it won't surprise them in the least.
Part of this video, as with the name, is dealing with smearing Michael Moore. I now consider it to be cliché to hate on Michael Moore, or to role your eyes and say he isn't worth listening to, or perhaps that he is full of it, or shouldn't be trusted. I now, after a lot of silence, consider this to be trite, disingenuous, and hot air.
And this is not actually about Michael Moore: this is about providing guaranteed healthcare, as a hallmark of a society that dares to call itself civilized or intelligent.
PS) I just want to see Americans flourish. I'm a strong believer in justice as fairness, that truth prevails, and human needs not met is a true, meaningful injustice. As Martin Luther King said, an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.
