A 7.4 earthquake hit the city of Christchurch today. We've been really lucky, no-one has passed away though considerable damage has occurred in parts of the city. Kiwis are cool people, they always have a sense of humor and just get on with it. That's how it's done.
A bit of an emotional tone but that's more cos I was thinking of people in Haiti, Pakistan and elsewhere. It's easier to relate to them when your woken at 4:30 AM getting tossed around a room in the pitch black, and standing outside in the cold, wondering if it was just the beginning and if a Tsunami might be on its way.
If we were a more united world, and didn't have a single war, the work would only just be beginning. Famine, drought, earthquakes, floods, tornados, tsunamis, disease, volcanos, even meteorites.... Nature is an awesome thing, we can only wise up, mature as a species, and deal with the real, common threats to humanity.
