Condemned: Criminal Origins is a fantastic demonstration of a title having a small scope, with laser-like focus and execution.

Condemned: Criminal Origins has one of the best 1st person combat systems around, with combat encounters carrying a lot of weight in those hits.
Condemned has an unsettling atmosphere that evokes dread in its approach to horror. I can't think of many Western titles that can match it on that front.
Condemned has great pacing, with short bursts of relief before the dread makes its way back in, and it doesn't wear out its welcome.
Even all these years later since its release in late 2005, Condemned stands as one of the better horror titles around, one which I consider a masterclass in horror.
