Bocchi the Rock was a hit anime from 2022, following the socially awkward and anxious Hitori Gotō, a girl who learned guitar so she could look cool and make friends. Her learned skill functions as an excuse of sorts, to push past the anxious feeling that she isn’t worth other people’s time, however it and other expressive acts like band shirts to show musical interest fail to gain her friends or change her life for three years, when she meets Nijika Ijichi, a drummer forming a band named Kessoku Band with her bassist friend Ryō Yamada. With the addition of Ikuyo Kita, and some words from Kikuri Hiroi as well, Bocchi starts coming out of her shell, a slow process of growth and change. From expressing interests in obvious ways, to making new acts feel natural, to celebrating small victories, her story is one with a lot of good lessons in how someone can change their life for the better, while still being a hilariously funny anime. So, today we’ll analyze’s bocchi’s character a bit and explain how she becomes the person she wants to be.
