Yuliy Kim (Юлий Ким) is a Russian bard who was born in 1936. His father was a Korean-born journalist living in Moscow, and his mother a teacher. Both parents fell to Stalin’s Great Purge, with his father executed and his mother sent to a labor camp. After his mother was pardoned under Khrushchev, Yuliy Kim began to write songs. He himself was targeted and censored, though he was able to perform concerts underground, like many other Soviet bards.
