*A different kind of challenge run: Minimalist 100%*
Disclaimer: Before we get started, I want to make 3 things clear:
*First*: 100% refers to the in-game counter - and that counter is totally bonkers. The only stuff that counts for it are things that make icons or names appear on your map - nothing else. Not quests, the actual story, the Hyrule Compendium or anything else that isn't a map waypoint. (Full breakdown: https://lemmy.world/post/228429
Now you might think: "But if that's the only thing that counts, then it doesn't exactly sound ...difficult? Where's the challenge?"
You see, the challenge of this playthrough is to get to 100% *without* any of the things that DON'T count, like armor, items, cooked meals, stat buffs, temporary extra health, inventory upgrades, food, health/stamina upgrades, non-mandatory weapons (including the Master Sword), ancient arrows, fairies, rune upgrades and the actual map.
I want to MacGyver my way through the game in the least "intrusive" way, while using up the least amount of ressources possible and repurposing everything I can for as long as possible.
*Second*: This is not going to be a speedrun, so don't expect to be shown the fastest or most effective solution to any quest, shrine or Divine Beast. The objective of this playthrough is to find the way that uses up the least amount of ressources even if it takes longer or seems more complicated and difficult or awkward.
I'm aware that this will probably not interest many people, but I'm personally bored of regular speedruns or curbstomping Lynels in the most effective way possible - I wanted to do something new instead.
*Third*: Since it will be mostly a no-fast-travel run (activating shrines doesn't raise the counter - only discovering them!) with a lot of boring, dull stuff (like lifting 700+ random rocks for Korok Puzzles that don't require any kind of skill, backtracking into areas that I've already visited etc.), I'll stick to the highlights instead of documenting every single step. Nobody wants to watch a 5 hour long video with two hundred YAHAHAs in a row just on the off chance that one or two of those puzzles _might_ be a bit more entertaining than the rest.
I'll do the boring stuff (skill-free Korok Puzzles and just running around) offscreen and include it in the tally whenever I post a new video. However, if any of you have a request for specific Korok Seeds or a non-optional task, then I'll try and include it in the challenge run ;)
The tally by the way: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E1Q9ZEUhtrnkwzvoLSF_OK_IJ0IWt3VTlQSqZ9l-myM/edit#gid=2102223780
As for the actual challenge run: I plan to prepare for Thunderblight and clear that one first, since Urbosa's Fury will save a lot of weapon usage in the long run. It's ONE boss killed by conventional means and then no other boss / foe after that will use up durability ever again.
That' why the second part will lead me to Korok Forest, as there is a mandatory quest that "forces" you to get a sword, shield and bow (not arrows tho, so the bow is still useless).
I will only allow myself the clear quests that are absolutely mandatory to make a shrine or Divine Beast accessible. There are some shrines that only appear after clearing their respective quest, but in some cases you can get to the shrine without actually doing the respective quest - those quests will be avoided at all costs. In some cases, obtaining the quest is mandatory but actually _completing_ it is optional - in those cases, I'll simply not complete them.
I want to keep the playthrough glitch-free, so no essence duping, windbombing, bullet time bounce, durability transfer, flying minecarts or duping equipment. Amiibos are of course also not allowed.
If you have any suggestions, questions or constructive criticism, feel free to comment ;)
Last but not least: a special thanks to reddit user u/Gerbil715 for all the help and hints and tips. I owe you one ♪
