About the raven statues pointing in the "right direction":
Not all of them point in the SAME direction. Most of them point directly to the shrine, even over/through walls, and some of them point towards the shrine platform instead. Only one string of them makes a path around the ruins - but you will still end up at either the shrine or the platform eventually if you just keep following their clues.
