The European Robin has long been associated with Christmas. In Victorian times, when people first started to send Christmas cards, the postmen who delivered the cards wore red uniforms and were nicknamed ‘robins’. At first the cards often depicted postmen delivering mail which then led to some artists drawing the robin bird rather than the 'robin' postman on the card. Other artists followed suit and having robin birds on Christmas cards soon became very popular.
