Today we’re going to take a look at the slam latch. This latch is both secure, and able to be locked. It’s easy to install and is available in both fractional and metric. Now the great thing about this latch, is that it requires no machining. However, a bolt assembly will be required to install it. More information on 80/20’s recommended bolt assemblies can be found in the 80/20 product catalog. Now when it comes to installing the slam latch, both sides of it are going to install in the same way, so we got the handle side already installed. To install the latch side, we’re going to take one last bolt and feed it through, put one last T-nut on. Once we got that preloaded on, we’re going to drop it right into the T-slot. Get that in there, we’ll line it up with the handle side, we’ll snap it all into place, we’ll go ahead and hold that into place and grab our wrench and tighten it down. Now once we got that tightened into place, we’ve got a secure connection, but we’re going to add on a little extra security,. We’re going to add in these cover caps. Now once these are slid in and the whole handle is locked into place, you’re not going to be able to access your bolts. That’s going to give you added security for when you have it locked up. Today we’re going to take a look at standard metal hinges. These hinges are great for profile-to-profile connections. They’re easy to install and available in both fractional and metric. The standard metal hinges come in both black and bright zinc. It requires no machining to install, but does require a bolt assembly. More information on 80/20’s recommended bolt assemblies can be found in the 80/20 product catalog. Now to install it. We’re get our bars into place and grab our hinge. We’ll give it one last bolt and preload one last T-nut. Now the T-nut has a pilot projection on it that you’re going to want to face downwards or away from the hinge when you put it on. So we’ll slide that right on. And we’ll take half the hinge and slide it right into the open T-slot. We’ll grab the other bar and do the same thing. Now once we have those lined up and into position, we’ll take our wrench and tighten down each bolt. Now once we have all these tightened down, our hinge will be ready for use.
