Great Western Castle Class 7029 'Clun Castle retraces its steps along the East Coast Mainline as it heads a special excursion from Kings Cross to Lincoln. The last time 7029 headed out of London Kings Cross was on an Ian Allan railtour in 1967. In the current climate steam is pretty rare out of Kings Cross due to capacity so we've only decided to do a couple of shots. The line is also considered high risk in regards to being bowled out/blocked by other services so I wasn't looking to put in to much effort for little possible reward.
For the video the main shot would be at Digwell Viaduct near Welwyn Garden City. Where 7029 is seen in full voice as it works away from the Junction and across the viaduct looking superb in the late morning Autumn Sun. The return leg is captured at Fernwood in Nottinghamshire about 4 miles from Newark. This scene perfectly demonstrates the risk of shooting on the ECML and thankfully we just about got away with it.
