Many modern Evangelicals have been trained to believe that the Bible is reliable for some pretty common reasons, including that there are a lot of manuscripts of the New Testament or that historians like Josephus talked about Jesus. However, these are pretty illusory as solid reasons to believe. In this video, I present six questions you can ask Christians that will get them to think about whether these are good reasons to believe the Bible as the inerrant word of God.
The Questions:
1) What does the number of New Testament manuscripts have to do with stories about Jesus being true? (1:08)
2) What happened during the 20 years between Jesus’ reported death and the writings of Paul? (3:28)
3) What do non-Christian authors like Josephus and Tacitus say about the life of Jesus? When do they say it, and where do they say they actually got the information? (6:28)
4) What does it prove if the Bible mentions real people and places from history? (8:30)
5) What do you think when you find supernatural tales in ancient texts other than the Bible? (10:43)
6) What do you think people should take from the scriptures as “historical documents?” (13:45)
