And then their eyes met across the battered grass of the clearing, and suddenly she was somewhere, or rather sometime else – the same determined stare fixed on her in wide surprise from a much younger face.
She had tried to scare him off back then, as she did with them all to survive. She remembered it well. “Run while you still can, boy. Don't you know what happens to little children in my forest?” she had asked, as menacingly as she could muster. But the boy's deep brown eyes – a warm colour as rich as the soil she so patiently nurtured – had only flashed with the briefest hint of hesitation before he stubbornly rooted his agile feet where he stood instead.

“I am 𝒏𝒐𝒕 a child,” he had protested in fierce seriousness, voice only slightly trembling while raising a worn wooden stick between them in a childish imitation of a battle stance, as if to prove his point. “I am a warrior.”

She had been torn between surprise and amusement at that peculiar defiance from one so little, back then; but now, as she stared back in stunned recognition at the man who was helping her, all that was left was awe.

It seemed that little boy had been no liar, 𝒶𝒻𝓉𝑒𝓇 𝒶𝓁𝓁.❞

As a child, despite growing up with scary stories about Sìr and its dwellers, he dares venturing into the outskirts of the forest to explore – and little does he know that his greatest adventure will find him closer to home than he thinks.
→ Nàr (Ivana Baquero), Namwe/Haleth's half-human, half-fairy daughter who will in time birth a powerful line of mages. She looks more human than fairy, but her single green eye betrays her magical heritage, glowing brightly whenever she taps into her power. As no one ever conceived such a halfling could even come into being, not even Mazarië herself can exactly tell the extent of her daughter's powers or her peculiar talents, which are for her to figure out and a constant source of wonder for both her and her parents.

So. Super nervous to actually upload this...but here we go. Most personal project in a long while, or maybe ever?
You might remember me vidding this cast from a while back, in one of my crossover collab parts from 2017. I have always wanted to do a longer something with them and with that particular embrional version of a storyline, and since then the ideas attached have kept growing out of proportion...so a while ago I decided it was high time these bbs got their own names and further fleshing out. Long story short: have my first ever OC video – which is likely not to be the last, because I've barely scratched the surface of all the half-baked plans I have for this wizard family. Would absolutely love to expand on the world as I go down generations...maybe in the next few years knowing my snail-like slowness when it comes to editing? We'll see. As for now, Nàr's own adventures have barely started (what happens towards the end of this video is a huge catalyst/turning point for her), but in my notes she has already a lot more to divulge about herself that isn't yet shown here, and I love her for it!

Run. ⚔ [mizu & taigen]

irydionlover. 2024-04-18 | "Why suffer so much to protect an enemy?"

(aka the return -but had it ever truly left?- of the angsty back-to-back thumbnail)

Blue Eye Samurai was one of, if not the first show I watched this year in January and I think I can safely say it's going to stay my absolute favourite show of 2024 (unless Arcane s2 topples it at the end of the year). I love virtually everything about it, from the setting to the artful shots, from the complicated, nuanced main cast of characters (I love all of them sm!) to the exploration of themes like discrimination, identity, self-hatred VS self-realization, learning from others on different paths in life;

...and then, to top all this, my etl radar started tingling pretty early on through my first watch and they had the guts to _actually_ build upon it (in a way that makes *complete* sense, since both of these characters use (sword)fighting as a coping mechanism and to them it's a sort of identity-defining quality, so it's almost ingrained in their beings to be belligerant and to hugely respect and value someone else who is similarly minded) and you can bet this dynamic was always going to be the very first thing I was going to edit about this show.
Because – besides the wonderful character development – the way these two together are completely unhinged is just UNMATCHED.
Taigen fighting Mizu that one time and basically reimagining their one fight _while_ doing the deed with Akemi *already in the second episode*? DEAD. Madame Kaji explaining desire to Mizu and them immediately flashing to aggressively rolling in the snow with Taigen and breathing deep into each other's personal space? MADNESS INCARNATE. Mizu casually stealing Taigen's scarf for themselves and leaving him with the first sword they ever forged in exchange (because _it fits well in his hand_ )? DEAD AGAIN. A Shang and Mulan/'she's the man' type of situation with Taigen internally bi-panicking the whole way through those last few episodes on top of all the rest? TOTAL INSANITY.
(And this being only s1...)

They definitely have a long road ahead still [especially Taigen needs to keep following through on those beginnings of self-reflection; maybe if a rather popular s2 prediction is right and he _did_ stow away on a certain ship, facing London as even more of an outsider than Mizu could do him a lot of good too in that regard], but I certainly hope they get to walk it and we get to see it to the end -when they decide to throw their scheduled duel and go live in peace somewhere- they (and this show!) deserve it.

I would absolutely love to do more on these two or try my hand at solo Mizu and/or Akemi videos in the future (I even have songs in mind, imagine that), so hopefully this won't be the last you see from me on BES...but knowing my record and how little time I have for vidding as of rn, you may see them in the next year or so xD. In the meantime, hope someone enjoys this as much as I did making it!

So...hi. Life, (extremely uncreative) work and general exhaustion/unease towards social networks and media oversaturation happened, but this channel is still a thing, looks like; as lethargic and not at all keeping up with trends as ever, as you can see, but it still is.

I fully blame Josh Hartnett starring in Oppenheimer and me unexpectedly seeing him in it after a long while towards the end of summer for sparking a rewatch of one of my absolute favourite shows of all time. Which also happens to be perfectly themed for spooky season!

Imo, Penny Dreadful is still one of a kind today. I haven't yet been able to find another show so introspectively poetic, all hinging on character and the analysis of the soul (the moody Victorian atmosphere and the supernatural only an excuse for it) coupled with the most gorgeous photography and the exceptional acting from the entire cast. It was a work of art. I used to mull over it mostly by myself and not watch that many videos about it back when it aired (mostly those by a few wonderfully talented friends, like lovely Caliban/John Clare expert @xLalla23x and others), but these characters and stories never left me and I still love them all to bits. I even find I understand and relate to some of them more personally now upon rewatching, like Ethan himself (...which is not necessarily a good thing to say, given the man's crippling self-worth issues and unhealthy self-isolating mechanisms, but hey xD). I also still feel the trauma from that painful ending, but at least I can see and somewhat accept that they tried to wrap things up as best as they could with the time they were allowed, and it seemed to be the network's whole fault for them not being able to give the final beats of their story the usual room to breathe -unlike other, more famous shows and film series with terrible endings...-

Among the countless things I loved, these two will always be one of _those_ forever OTPs for me. It was honestly a crime never to have made videos about them, especially given how insanely on brand they are as my typical editing subjects: star-crossed, haunted, lonely people being each other's peace, challenging each other's belief that they are irredeemable monsters and understanding each other better than anyone else + sprinkled with symbolism and prophecy? I was always sold, and they (and we!) deserved to see Vanessa's dream vision come true after all they endured, but the odds -and oftentimes they themselves and their tragically unfortunate choices- were always stacked against them and they broke our hearts instead ;_;

I don't think I gave them the justice I truly would have liked with this (so many quotes and scenes that didn't make the cut! Might have to edit them again if only for this very reason), but I absolutely loved combining them with this song; the way the musical tune starts comforting, almost fairytale-like but grows increasingly dramatic, with the lyrics cascading into visceral imagery all of a sudden, just embodies Ethanessa/the show's general mood so well to me. I guess I'll let whoever is still watching PD videos in the year of our lord 2023 -if there is anyone at all- judge...

Posted this a few, tiny minutes before it turns into the 12th, because apparently I like living dangerously...but actually POSTED it. Considering I was forced to turn my last birthday video attempt into a Christmas present because of my nasty habit to get stuck on nearly-finished projects, I'll count this as improvement.
To anyone not knowing, today (I should probably say yesterday by the time I'm writing this description) was the birthday of one of the loveliest, most empathetic and insightful (and let's not forget frigging *talented*!) people you'll ever meet, if you're fortunate enough: Kim aka @ofdurinsfolk. I simply cannot remember how I ever went by without the certainty and wonderful ease of our conversations, and this video is probably only enough to cover a tiny fraction of the appreciation I feel. I hope you had the best of days...'peculiar' presents aside :D ♥

However, what was forged in the fires of surviving the JJerrio debacle can only be celebrated by 'saving what we love' out of it, and in that fashion I am here to (hopefully) provide with more of our favourite, star-crossed space enemies-to-lovers who, after everything that happened, deserved their happy fairytale ending and to heal together...and at least in our (infinitely better) headcanons, they can. (What's that? There's footage post-kiss? Never heard of it). I seriously think that, in spite of the huge waste of potential the ST suffered from in some areas, Reylo may still have ruined the etl trope forever for me as far as live action goes. No one simply comes close to the actually perfectly balanced dynamic, the need for connection built on deep personal trauma, the raw honesty and utter lack of manipulation through it all. No one will ever let me go as hard with the 'umasking-each-other-in-every-possible-sense-of-the-word' and the 'i-am-talking-with-or-about-you-but-actually-i-am-also-talking-about-myself' metas...*sigh* I just miss them, and looking forward to more of their story, so much sometimes.
This song is more obviously readable from Ben's POV (aka the guy physically *underneath* the big, bad black mask), but I think it fits Rey too, since she also demonstrates a tendency to hide under her own happy-go-lucky mask and to run away/stall rather than facing painful truths about herself (which is actually one of her character traits I've always found most relatable. Self-sabotaging is a pain, and a very real one).

What does one do with an undervidded film packed with dynamic, visually stunning action/running scenes?
They finally get the chance to make the Run Boy Run edit they've always wanted to make, of course...

Yes, I'm still not over enthusing about JZ and how wonderfully entertaining it is to edit with it. While my first video about it was more of a quiet, meditative piece about the core relationship and themes, this one is pure action and fun bent to character study-ish purposes. So many of the scenes and visuals I included this time were not in "Find You" at all, which is really all there is to say about the many facets the film has to offer! Jiang Ziya may have the kindest, most compassionate heart and I love him for it, but he is also a fiercely badass warrior with a magically glowing sword-turned-staff, and you can bet he damn well knows how to use it to defend against demons and corrupted heavenly beings alike.
(And speaking of demons: I just can't get over how both the Chinese and American actresses absolutely *kill* it as Jiuwei/Nine-Tailed. Both line deliveries 100% nail her chaotic, vengeful maliciousness and are downright bone-chilling to listen to, in the very best way.)

Jiang Ziya | Find You [Legend of Deification]

This video was a struggle to complete (looks like I've completely lost the ability to make full-song videos without migraine attacking me as relentlessly as the Nine-tailed fox demon ;_;), but as soon as I watched this film it jumped straight to the top of my favourite animation features ever, so I tried. PLEASE CONSIDER WATCHING IT, it deserves a world of love! The amounts of spellbinding animation and wonderful imagery in it are endless -- I don't think there is literally a single frame that couldn't be made into a wallpaper, the colours are the most vibrant thing and it's just art all around (down to the end credits!). And if you're mythology aficionad*s who also enjoy their good ethical compassion-VS-'greater good' dilemmas and a bit of mystical storytelling like me, you will love the story too. The stakes and epicness always feel high, but the film can be surprisingly gentle and character-driven for a tale about gods and demons and crumbling dynasties. It was also amazing to have the excuse to look up actual Chinese lore/myth/history and discover just how many details in this film are clever references to the main source material in which Jiang Ziya appears (traditional Chinese epic Fengshen Yanyi) and to the way he's traditionally portrayed there and in popular folklore, while others are interesting twists or reinterpretations of that same source material. All in all, Chinese mythos and culture is *so* fascinating, and I can tell there's many more myths and stories for me to discover after fortuitously colliding into this. In the meantime, you can very possibly expect to see more JZ edits from me in the future (especially since there seems to be an atrocious lack of them on the English-speaking side of YT at the moment).

As for the video itself, the relationship between Jiang Ziya and Xiao Jiu is at the very heart of the film and one of the things I loved most about it. Jiang Ziya's empathy and his desire to uncover the truth and later do anything he can to protect Jiu are the driving forces moving the entire story forward and defining what kind of god he wants to become; while on her part, Xiao Jiu spends the whole film searching for the memory of her father but ultimately, in her bleakest lifetime where everyone else (both humans and gods) has forsaken her, it's Jiang Ziya himself who comes to fill that role for her.

Thanks to the neverending upload time, I'm not sure whether this is going to be the very last video of 2020 or the very first of 2021 -- but nevertheless, of all the projects I started ages ago lying dusty in my to-complete folder, I was pretty adamant that if I was to strike back against the latest bout of vidder's block, this would have to be the project to do it with.

These two are perhaps the two purest souls in the entire shipping world; if you have them as your otp, I believe you will never find a sweeter relationship elsewhere. So it is only fitting that they're basically the representative, #1 favourite ship of one of the sweetest people on this website, one whom I have the privilege to call my friend. To Kim, I will only say this: I know that Morwenna would 100% be your character alter-ego if you could choose one, but I hope you realize how similar to Drake you are, too (and I mean this in the best way possible, since apparently a section of the Fandom That Shan't Be Named decided to hold a grudge against this cinnamon roll of a man for some unexplicable reason back when the show was airing). You are the most steadfast, gentle soul and I cannot even begin to articulate all the ways that becoming closer during this past year has been healing and comforting for me even in dark, self-loathing times. This was originally planned as a birthday present (imagine the utter *slowness* 🤦) and lacks so many scenes and could never rival your many perfect tributes to this gem of a show and couple, but I tried to portray what I think is the core of their relationship, the understanding and the healing and the neverending, ever-patient support; and I don't know if I have succeeded, but it has been therapeutic and I hope it shows, even a little. To you, and to anyone patient enough to read my descriptions through, may you have the happiest New Year possible, full of healing and new beginnings. See you all in the new year! ♥ (2020 has set the bar pretty low, let's be honest, so I think that if we don't manage to do better now than last year, we never might. xD)

There are so, so many characters and relationships worth vidding in the Medici series as a whole that I wholeheartedly love (this first autumn without it feels rather empty, on top of all the other awful, disorienting happenings 2020 has brought). Yet I somehow always seem to come back to s2 – the superior season, let's all be honest here – and brothers of choice torn apart by poor decisions, deeply rooted dichotomies and manipulative old men...just like another all-time favourite pair of mine.

Also: this turned out really shippy and I regret absolutely nothing. (If you will, especially blame Daniel's utter lack of chill and disregard of personal space as Lorenzo for the entirety of that season for it.)

This past couple of months running up to the discussion of my bachelor's degree thesis (which is going to be in two weeks' time and I have scarcely realized it yet akdsjfhfdh) have possibly been the most mental in the history of insane uni/work weeks (with the current week taking the cake in levels of schedule insanity x.x); however, I was always determined to draw up at least one project for Elle's (youtube.com/channel/UCEGsb6LRFX7dAVyWhKJSvLQ) wonderful #OCtober -- a series of prompts, one per October day, all dedicated to vidding original characters; you can find the complete list on Elle's channel -- and this is my attempt to fulfil that resolution. Some of the wonderfully creative and amazingly talented ladies on this site have come up with heart-stoppingly beautiful responses to the prompts so far; so first things first, I urge everyone to check the #OCtoberedit tag and playlist (youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWONAgIJJVIhPkMF7KYcbcHS5TlRaD-uB) and fill your eyes and hearts with their captivating stories and plethora of fascinating characters ♥

As for this video: today's prompt was "villain", and how could I resist really?
So meet Ayl: ice-wielder and shapeshifter extraordinaire from my Ibnàri stories -- whose beginnings can be found in my older "protectors of Sìr" video (youtu.be/5vtpfC2RogQ) -- and one of the main characters Nàr encounters after leaving her mother's forest.
He is more antihero than villain in my mind; but he and Nàr first meet as enemies, and "villain" is certainly how he views himself when she first meets him.

Story points referenced in this video:
→ Ayl is a mortal/immortal halfling like Nàr, but with the misfortune of being born of a much less loving union. His father is a cunning, rather merciless mountain spirit with a huge vendetta against the kingdom bordering with his domain. Ayl was not raised by him, unlike Nàr with her forest spirit mother Mazarië, but as he grew up he could always sense a cold, chilling presence in his wake, patiently observing his every move.
→ He can shapeshift into white animals of different kinds; the stag was ever his favourite since he first met his beloved while in that form.
→ While shapeshifting always came as easy as breathing to him, his ice powers are a different story. The one time he lost control over them, it was a terrible accident that cost the one he loved her very life (or that is what he believes happened, at least...). He then pledged himself to his father's questionable bidding in the hopes of learning how to master them from him, thinking himself an out-of-control monster.
→ As the only two existing halflings they know of, and with Nàr's own fire powers acting up ever since Haleth's demise, the two share a wary, unwilling understanding of each other.

Notable cameos: Ysmael (Uli Latukefu), Nàr's first and main companion -- who has a lot of backstory himself that I hope to eventually get to vid too, along with my main girl.
This video is also quite different from Protectors -- I tried experimenting with texts and overlays more and I have to say I'm rather happy ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶b̶l̶o̶o̶d̶y̶ ̶o̶n̶c̶e̶ about some discoveries I made, so I might keep vidding these lovely people in this fashion. As always, would love anyone's opinion on this, and hope to be back posting sooner rather than later once rl madness subsides a little!

Me liking the villain (antihero –or even hero, given who he actually is and what a bomb that name-dropping was– to be?) with a somewhat conflicted conscience who ultimately does the right thing after a whole lot of badassery on the wrong side? Shocking. Never saw that coming. (insert abundance of sarcasm)

'Cursed' is a bit of a hit and miss (truly stunning visuals and some intriguing characters, but doubtful acting/onscreen presence for other rather crucial roles and a contextualization that is all over the place imho), but it *is* wonderful to edit with. I mean, two edits in the span of a week, when is that ever going to happen again? And this guy right here...favourite character potential is all I can say. He already reminds me a LOT of my beloved Ben, both on visual and some story levels (may feel the need to make a parallel video at some point in the future).
I've always wanted to use this song in some capacity, and I've just had it echoing in the back of my mind ever since his intro scene. Also, borrowed a quote from my main favourite Arthurian show (can you recognize it?), because that conversation with Gawain instantly made me think about that particular scene, and I thought it described him perfectly.

Trip down memory lane, here we go! Celebrating the end of my exams by finally updating the Destiny & Chicken playlist after 7 (!) years feels surprisingly good. You can blame this resurgence of nostalgia on the awesome combination of my university friend currently marathoning good old Merlin on Netflix + me being rather obsessed with this catchy song ever since I heard it in this Reylo edit (youtu.be/pO4_sYFdfMQ). I will probably never really change my mind on how much the end of this show wasted and how poorly characters were handled; but some of the good old fun this show used to represent for me and all the love and investment in characters and cast both all came rushing back, and it is so nice to be able to feel positive about it again. Only time will tell if this means I'll be vidding more of it solo again...but now I can definitely say it may happen, and that's progress.

As for the video itself, well, how could I not vid my blueprint OTP of opposites as the first product of said nostalgia? However, I wouldn't say this is that much of a shippy Mergana video (except for the unhealthy amount of UST of course, since I don't think Colin or Katie ever got –or always wilfully ignored xD– the memo to tone it down, even after their characters became enemies), so much as a study of the devolution of their relationship. Throughout the show, they both built up these warped, increasingly partial views of one another, that only ever got worse as the betrayals and mutual mistrust grew. They both saw each other as the villain in their own narrative; which is why I thought the POV of the singer fit both, and why I split the song exactly into equal halves of opposite perspectives with no communication between them. Merlin is the more moral of the two, one could say, so he does admit some responsibility in how things turned out, but ultimately thinks Morgana made her bed (and even in some early season 1/2 situations he was quick to think the worst of her before she actually did evil); while Morgana keeps grudges forever and is so caught up in her feelings of anger and betrayal that she overlooks the cruel actions she herself commits, and thinks they're all justified when they're not. The saddest thing about these two will always be that they could have easily been the very best thing for one another – instead they ended up as the very worst 😭

A completely unplanned, short and messy part 2 of an apparent "all my ships remind me of Reylo now" trend that is going on in my mind atm (or is it the other way around?), while trying to navigate through exam session madness and some confusing back-and-forth re: anti-Covid measures.
Never would I have ever thought to find parallels between the videogame of my heart (FFX) and this sequel trilogy before TROS (completely different story, dynamics and character personalities overall)...but this is what we ended up with: two heroines with the weight of their entire worlds on their shoulders + their loves vanishing into thin air, knowingly sacrificing themselves :(

(Also: overused song is overused, but it's become almost an unofficial vidder's rite of passage to make a Youth vidlet at some point, so I guess it just had to happen sooner or later.)

This is probably one of my favourite videos I have ever made (and if you know my self-deprecating self a little, you'll also know that's a hell of a lot coming from me). Still pretty simple, still not perfect, wish I had better quality clips which I can't get atm due to hard-drive space or rather lack thereof (and also wish colouring didn't murder it some more)...but I've been wanting to vid this concept for years now and I'm just excited to have finally gotten to it. A HUGE thank you goes, as it always does these days, to Kim for endlessly listening to me enthusing more or less coherently about how much the similarities between these four make my heart burst. (Girl, if you don't go finish ATLA after this, I'll make it my personal mission to hunt you down as soon as this quarantine is over u.u)
Also yes: someone still needs to pry Star Wars (and Reylo) from my itchy hands and snap me out of this particular vidding spree. Fingers crossed you're not bored yet.

Explaining how much these ships exactly mean to me would be quite long; but for starters, my freefall into the Reylo pit only truly started when my brain suddenly realized that, while remaining their very own thing, they were also building up to basically be a live-action reenactment of Zutara in so many ways – and one that had the potential to right the eternal waste Bryke had made by never going full canon with them. The parallels between ships only ever kept growing since, both on visual and thematic levels, both as couple dynamics and similarities between the characters on their own (even down to adorable irl details like both Mr Dante "I did fall in love with Katara" Basco and Mr Adam "sentimental and obvious" Driver being the biggest, dorkiest shippers there are), and I've never looked back since. These are atm, and will probably always remain, my favourite fictional ships in the entire world – for their being so intrinsecally meta and linked to myth and symbols and primal storytelling, and at the same time their ability to tackle real, raw, relatable human feelings; and for being the definition of all that is beautiful about enemies-to-lovers to me: that journey to mutual growth and the deepest understanding, acceptance and soul-searing connection there is. Unfortunately, instead of completing a trajectory never finished, these ships ended up both having something the other lacks – with Reylo getting that beautiful kiss, yes, but at the atrocious cost of Ben's life and with the added horror that was most of the writing in TROS (which ultimately makes Zutara the better pairing, imho; ATLA's character building and single arcs remain mostly perfect (Zuko's most of all), and "we didn't end up together, but you changed my life forever" is 1000x a better look than "I cannot feel half of my soul anymore and will have to live without it for the rest of my life"). But they remain special, the beauty of the journey only partially soured by the destination, and that is something to treasure ♥

A couple more notes:
-God knows how much I hate to quote murderer-of-scripts extraordinaire C.Terrio – but *some* on-point sentences were spoken in the TROS bts (even though I believe he has exactly 0 ideas what 'dyad' or 'soulmates' are actually supposed to mean), and I'll be damned if I don't use any little detail I have at my disposal against their cynical narrative;
-About the Finn/Aang parallel: I love both characters, they are the most loyal, brave friends one could have, and they are ultimately right in pointing out to Rey/Katara that they're not in their right state of mind in that particular situation – but they also tend to idealize their friend and reject her darker side / be involuntarily patronizing about it, something that Ben/Zuko, having faced Rey/Katara at their most violent in battle, never do and understand a lot better coming from a perception of themselves as "imperfect" already.

Whew. If you've actually reached the end of this rant, you're awesome.

Is Rey getting Ben out of there? Or is she just dreaming of a kinder universe where she can do something, anything to bring him back?
(We all know which interpretation we are all choosing...these two deserved the chance to finally be soft with one another, free of the burden of the star war, so much ;_;)

Still unsure this makes as much sense as it did in my head...but basically, this is my take on the post-TROS 'world between worlds' fix-it theories circulating in the fandom right now (as usual, the meta produced by Reylos is the most fascinating and inspiring of all lore-wise). And joke's on you, Disney: Orpheus & Eurydice (aka journey into the land of the dead to rescue a loved one) is one of my favourite tropes in existence, and now I just have the perfect excuse to adapt it to Rey and Ben.

...Well, what to say. First things first, sorry I am still in SW spam mood – was pretty unavoidable, all considered. It took me 'only' two months to even begin to process and do something constructive (I hope?) with the deep-cutting hurt TROS inflicted. This is likely a messier product for it; and I could spend yet more words talking about the 1983384756 things in this film that, to me, didn't make sense/fell completely flat and devoid of emotion/were a disservice to so many characters and established narrative threads in the saga as a whole (all made worse by the still ongoing wave of vitriol unleashed on various platforms online)...but I'm not going to do that. I'm genuinely glad there seems to be a part of the fandom that has enjoyed the film; and there were salvageable and even genuinely moving moments in it, so it would be in bad faith to pretend like it's a complete miss (wouldn't be here making videos about it if it were).

One such moving section was everything surrounding Ben's redemption, in spite of how unfairly it ended (and how hurtful it still is to think about how harmful a message said end passes on). Adam obviously gave it his all, and it was amazing to almost see a completely different person coming alive in the ten minutes total or so (a bloody crime!) he had to finally, finally be just Ben, free and confident and focused and beautifully himself. Ben Solo has come to mean an awful lot to me on a very deep, personal level; glimpsing the boy behind the mask and rooting for him all these years has been kind of like rooting for myself in what has been the most difficult, still-ongoing time of my life. That is probably why, if there's anything I want to take away from the wobbly mess that the ST turned into as a whole, it is how inspiring a character Ben has been and will continue being for all people who are struggling with their self-worth, feelings of self-hatred and overcoming trauma of any kind.

That journey of finding himself and freeing himself of self-imposed chains is what I tried to focus on with this video, with help from the 'lion' imagery in the song – which you'll find kinda shifting in its meaning as the video progresses. At the beginning, the 'lion' is Palpatine/Snoke, the predator hunting child Ben, and Ben himself ends up turning into a 'lion' in the most feral sense by becoming Kylo Ren. On the contrary, when Ben finally frees himself of the mask, he becomes a 'lion' in the positive sense again – brave, noble, selfless. And he is finally able to finish what his grandfather started in a way 💔
This is also meant as a sort of 'part 2' to my 'When you break' video from post-TFA days (youtu.be/bOBVXwBLj-Y ); so you'll find the same fancast for younger Ben (sorry Finn Wolfhard fans, won't be swayed on this) and some manips here and there to show Ben's relationship with his family. I think Ben's lonely childhood is even more relevant, if possible, now that we have the RoKR comics; antis willfully discarding it are simply, knowingly rejecting a huge part of the character that doesn't fit their narrative, and I just always wish we had official film material to work with too :(

I do apologize for the Star Wars/Reylo spam recently, but these two are all I can think about fandom-wise, especially after that beautifully hopeful final trailer we got (the MUSIC, God, John Williams has just done it again). This is likely to be my last pre-TROS Star Wars video (I can't believe the time has finally arrived to say it!), and it is an especially ambitious one I've been working on and off ever since getting a decent copy of TLJ back in the day (yeah yeah, see how hopelessly slow a vidder I am part 3827456). To me, this song is Reylo to the core (the freaking L Y R I C S), and every clip in this has some level of thought on my part behind it, as I've tried cramming in the video some of the symbolisms/meta traits that make me love this pair and their dynamic, among them:

-our perception as viewers that we've always had one clear central Force-wielder protagonist of each trilogy/generation, while with the ST and Rey/Ben we have two equally important halves making a whole;
-obvious yin/yang, light/dark completing/balancing each other out/endlessly circling each other themes (collecting literal visual shots for the “moving in and out of the shadow” line of the song has been a super interesting exercise);
-perceptions of one another constantly swinging back and forth (push and pull and constantly forcing some degree of soul-searching and character development on them both);
-commentary made by Ben or Rey about one another or made by other people about one of them actually describing BOTH of them (children in masks, can't stop needing parental figures = greatest weakness, needing to put the past behind them, losing faith in their masters etc.);
-a hint at reverse!Anidala (which I've actually never been the greatest fan of, as I've always thought that comparing Rey to Padme doesn't work as well as comparing Ben to Anakin when you exclude the “botched proposal” scene – but boy are the visual parallels stunning);
-some more meta quotes from ATLA (and particularly Zutara, aka the twin ship to Reylo), because it's almost unreal how they 100% sound like things Rey and/or Ben would say or think about one another. (That infamous parallel video between ships will be one of the first things I do with TROS for sure!)

I'm not sure that as a whole the video makes as much sense as it does to me, but I hope you will enjoy it nonetheless. Our watch has almost ended – circle prayer that this ending is a good one!

(I 100% stand by the opinion that Dark Rey would be 10000x scarier than whatever Ben ever hoped to achieve with his Kylo persona — furious at the world for leaving her alone, with no familial ties to make her falter and question her every decision. I know the brief glimpse of IX we got is most likely going to be a vision, but nonetheless it's really fascinating to get a window onto this other reality. LET IT BE DECEMBER already!)

I didn't watch that many post-TFA tributes back in the day, and this is coming back to bite me in the butt now it seems. You are one of the most creative and enthusiastic people I know. Your positivity is infectious and awesome, and I am beyond proud to have been able to call you my friend for all these years -- and now I am also proud to have finally finished something in time for your birthday, which I had been wanting to do for ages! So, what started with me having wanted to edit Obikin to Placebo for ages (and how could I *not* vid Obikin for Lauren, since these two are basically the way we met?) ended up turning into a study of sorts in parallels between favourite fandoms and the broken brotherhood/friends-to-enemies dynamics in them. Three are among mine and Lauren's all-time favourites, and one is a fandom I haven't yet pestered her to watch nearly enough (especially since both a certain Madden *and* a certain James have major roles in said show). For some reason, these kinds of relationships often tend to be the most heartbreaking to me, so I suppose this is as personal as a fandom video can get for me ;_;

Trying to remind myself that I can actually (hopefully) vid. This university year has been beyond crazy, with June being the worst of it -- so crazy that I have to resort to uploading from Germany (where I am staying for the upcoming month) to finally vaguely look like I'm still active on this channel. During the last few months the idea of vidding was only adding more stress and anxiety to the rest of the load (until it morphed into downright vidder's block), so I ultimately decided to keep away from Youtube for a while. A thousand apologies if I have disappeared on you for collabs or if I have left comments without reply. I'll try to rectify the latter these days a bit, wenn ich nicht spazieren gehe!

That said...Episode IX and these two (but most of all a deserving conclusive arc for Ben) are basically all I'm going to ask for my next Christmas. I have had SO many fandoms I loved disappoint me to bitterness over this last year (yes, GOT and VLD, I am looking at you both) and I don't think I would take it well if SW turned out to be the umpteenth fandom passing on the dreadful message that your past defines what you'll end up being and that people can't really change for the better. This saga has always been about compassion and forgiveness and doing the right thing when it matters most, and it would honestly just be completely out of character if it did. In any case, IX is going to be epic (PALPATINE. IS. BACK. AND THAT ALONE IS REASON TO PANIC) and I can't wait for December to arrive!

I have been wanting to vid these two again forever after TLJ, but I feel like they encompass so many themes that I will never possibly give them the justice they deserve (plus, there are already SO many mesmerizing Reylo edits around). Hopefully some of my favourite themes (unmasking each other, their perception about one another continuously being challenged and evolving, plus the obvious visual specularities and gorgeous red vs. blue colour scheme a lot of their scenes have) come through in the video. This project is one of many that had been sitting on my to-do folder forever -- I'm really happy it's seen the light of day at long last! What can I say, I had missed vidding my Faustian prequel boy ♥
I also realized later that this song not only is perfect for him (and particularly his fall into the dark side, with his visions of the future tormenting him), but the title of the remix offered me an irresistible internal pun on a silver platter, so I just couldn't *not* take that opportunity.

By the way, something I noticed just now even after all these years -- Hayden's original Anakin is a bit less dark than Italian Anakin? In particular, I was rewatching the scene where he admits to Padmé that he killed all the Tuskens, and in English Hayden's voice, while expressing anger, has a strong undertone of regret, breaking several times, while in Italian dub he sounds a lot angrier and more hateful rather than remorseful. From the English you get a strong sense of self-hatred from that scene that in Italian goes a bit lost, I think. (And then they said Hayden can't act 🙄). The subtle differences voiceacting can make are fascinating!

I am sorry I didn't manage to finish more projects before the end of the year (especially since I haven't posted much at all this year T.T of course inspiration has to be lethargic for months and wake up now that I should be studying for my winter exams, a good old classic), but hopefully you'll see more of me in 2019 – and I can tell with a fair degree of certainty that you will see more crossovers, as I have been working on a longer project for the past few weeks basically non-stop and I am really excited to finish it ^-^

I still can't believe this show basically gave us Renaissance Obikin. Rip my heart.

All in all, I loved season 2 a whole lot more than the first one (Contessina remains the best character though, that is not disputable). I really loved and suffered with all the ships, but to me the highlight of the season were Lorenzo's two brotherly relationships: the one with his blood brother Giuliano, and the one with Francesco, the brother he had chosen -- and that he lost to family rivalry and generational hatred.
I went into the season fully knowing what was supposed to happen and didn't expect their relationship to be this compelling and deep at all (I fully expected Francesco to receive the same "total villain" treatment as Jacopo did), and yet. They know how to pull my strings with the broken (br)otps, I guess ç.ç. The character probably owes a lot to Matteo Martari's stellar performance too -- both he and Bradley were stealing the spotlight left and right with their wonderful acting, imho. I cannot wait for the show to be put on Netflix so more people will watch it!

---Ps: on a sidenote, thanks to all who voted in my poll! Since the feels are still fresh this video had the highest chance to get finished first (and I would love to make a bit more on the Medici), but now I know what to get back to working on next :)

A summary to the inception of this video: Vale gets sucked into a new fandom, catches one of her notorious "sympathy for the devil" cases, ends up only really rooting ship-wise for the one ship in said show that eventually explodes into a supernova of angst, and suffers for it. See a pattern? Because I do xD when will I ever learn, honestly.

I can safely say I'm never regretting finally picking up Voltron though -- granted, I might have wanted to pick a less crazy season to culminate my episodes-marathon with ^^' but this show is amazing in every possible way. Multi-layered, relatable, diverse and engaging characters at every corner, deep themes and amazing art style make it the real virtual heir to ATLA that LOK never quite was to me. After seeing so many gorgeous edits around it's so exciting to be able to join the fray!
There are so many things and people worth vidding about in the show (makes me wish I didn't suck so much at general videos) and I have a lot of favourites, but these two had to take precedence because...after seeing s5 and s6 one after the other I needed some serious elaboration of feels. This is the result, which I hope doesn't show too much how new to the fandom I am ^^

As for Lotor himself, who is a bit of a hot topic at the moment...I have lots, lots to say about him and I'll thank the stars forever for Anouk and Becca, aka the ones who prompted me to finally dive into VLD, to have born with my ramblings these past couple of weeks in which I have annoyed them to no end (and especially Anouk, who doesn't even like him all that much ^^') -- here I will just say that, however you see him, he is amazingly complex and one of the most fascinating antagonists in recent media, I think. Despite his terrible deeds, I still believe he has it in him to do right by the end of this story and deserves to have a shot at freeing himself from the shadows of his upbringing, but I suppose only time will tell which reading of him is correct and if he really is just a charming, crafty bastard (for which I will probably love him no less) xD. In the meantime, I was overly glad to hear the producers confirm his feelings for Allura as very real -- a tiny bit of vindication as a shipper, and perhaps a clue that he really isn't 24/7 manipulating people. Aren't shades of grey better in a character anyway?

I was 99% sure my first video of 2018 (or anything I happened to post on ship day aka St. Valentine's) would be something Reylo, with all the meat TLJ handed us fans...but no -- after some dreadful hard disk issues (every vidder's best friend, am I right?), exam exhaustion (but some personal gratification too, freaking finally) and all in all the fullest January in recent years, have some Gisabel feels instead.

Bless Baraou No Souretsu (or Requiem of the Rose King), Aya Kanno's WOTR/RIII-themed manga, for finally giving me a worthy depiction of the other York/Neville OTP (despite some other...let's just say weird ships and plot solutions, but this is supposed to be a historical *and* fantasy manga after all). Leafing through the latest scans and finding such heartfelt drawings of George/Isabel, particularly in their final chapters [HOW DARE YOU GIVING THEM THE RICHANNE HUG THOUGH, AYA, MY FEELS WERE NOT READY] honestly warmed my heart, because I always have a bone to pick with Ricardian authors (and not only PG) who invariably have to write George as a Jerk™ in all aspects of his life (as if he was incapable at all of positive emotions), and portray this successful marriage as an abusive relationship (or alternatively, they sometimes make Isabel into a Jerk™ too, and I don't know which pisses me off more ^^'). If anything, I've always thought that the fact that he seemed to go crazy again right after Isabel's death after years of relatively amicable relations with Edward, coupled with the fact that he's actually the only one of the York brothers with no reported bastard children (and all this despite his notoriously fickle political loyalties), actually speaks a lot more in favour of him caring about Isabel than the contrary. So what I tried to capture here, combining the two media (and some added scenes/VOs from here and there), is a depiction of this pairing as what I think they could have been if their romantic potential had been used properly in TWQ -- a husband and wife who care for each other, but whose position and ambition got in the way and ultimately ruined their happiness together.

It also seems TWQ has officially become experimental territory for me -- this time I tried my hand at MMV-editing style (adding so much respect for MMV editors to the amount I already had, because masking and "animating" all the scans is SO much work T.T), and I would very much like to hear your thoughts about it. Can't believe we're less than a week away from TLJ! While being super uneasy about the way some characters could be developed (especially Luke), I'm definitely excited and looking forward/have great expectations for others – particularly my newest problematic Skywalker kid here, so I thought it only fair to celebrate by posting something about him again. :3 I think I actually started this video way back last spring, but then Chester died...and vidding one of my favourite LP songs ever suddenly became very painful for a while :c I'm really glad I was finally able to finish before the film premieres – and I think after all the best way to remember and honour his memory is to keep sharing his work whichever way we can.

The song is supposed to work in reverse here, just as Kylo/Ben was presented as a sort of reversed Anakin – he starts off thinking of the Dark Side/First Order as the righteous path, while the Light (personified by his parents and his connection with Rey) is the "demon" always whispering in his head, trying to make him sway. I think this sorta reverse psychology is wonderfully fascinating and is totally a big part of what makes him such an interesting character, and I'm really looking forward seeing it explored further in TLJ.
[Also, Reylo – a.k.a the liveaction!Zutara 2.0 I never knew I needed so much. They better give us something after being such a giant tease in the trailers, or half the internet is going to riot, lol.]

irydionlover. 2017-10-28 | I eventually decided I'm going to post these when I have a decent number of parts to make a video, for a number of reasons:

-I don't exactly know how much time I'll have to vid my full projects atm because the workload for my new uni is pretty massive, so at least this way I get to post something to let you know I'm always alive & kicking;
-dreadful lack of full-crossover videos on my channel, despite my love for them (the aforementioned lack of time is obviously involved in this too c.c);
-to share more fandoms I love that people might not know I love since I don't usually vid them otherwise;
-when vidding a crossover MEP part I tend to overthink plotlines and so more often than not I grow very attached to the pairings/stories, so I think they deserve a place with my longer projects ^-^;

These two are the classic case of random thought-out pairing you grow fond of instantly. They really click to me because I think an artistic and poetic soul such as Hugh would naturally be attracted by Natasha's joyful sparkle, and Hugh's romantic ways of courtship are exactly everything Natasha dreamt of in W&P.

I simply adore Craig's (Richard's) smile, it's strikingly sweet, and I had just been finally watching LotS properly -with only 10 years of delay xD- while brainstorming for the MEP, so there you go ^^)

Darken Rahl is god Horus's right hand/most trusted friend/lover (insert whatever you like to see them as); but the one thing he truly loves more than anything is power, so he ends up betraying his lord and stealing his eyes aka the source of his power for himself. When Horus gets one back, Rahl finds out enraging a god might just have been the worst idea he's ever had.

Crawling out of my hole to put my hands back on good ol' Poldark, and to vid this unexpected ship I found myself shipping. I honestly really liked most of this last season's additions to the cast – I adore Drake/Morwenna, the purest souls in Cornwall; and even vicar Osborne as disgusting as he is had his semi-comical moments (and the actor is phenomenal). As for the other prettyface in specific question here, aka Hugh Armitage...I really didn't want to like him at the beginning, having an inkling of what was going to happen. But he has been nothing but sweet and in an adorable state of awe of Demelza, their chemistry together has been off the charts, he has never pressured her into things and his heartfelt poems would melt any heart. Demelza on the other hand has been as honest as she could (not to mention patient!) with Ross, has laid bare her heart over and over again and remained steadfast, while he keeps brushing off their issues, being cold and not at all honest about Elizabeth (and let's not start about his infuriating narrow-mindedness about public offices). It has taken him two whole seasons to maybe start thinking about being less of an ass, and I honestly hope this one last cold shower finally wakes him up a bit.

I also jumped at the spark of inspiration to vid these two because my dearest Laura (laurakenji) has a bit of a crush on Josh from what I know! Cara Gen, come forse ormai sai io con video di compleanno o cose simili sono un disastro e non riesco mai ad essere giusta coi tempi, ma visto anche l'ultimo periodo piuttosto difficile per te e i discorsi "seri" fatti a maggior ragione ci tenevo a dedicarti qualcosa, senza una particolare occasione correlata, che spero ti faccia sorridere per un paio di minuti ♥

I also wanted to say I'm deeply sorry about any misshap with collab parts I owed people that has happened over these five months. I am not usually so sloppy, but I had to take a serious break from YT for quite a while because I kinda had a mental breakdown not too long ago, and my assessment of my self-worth probably touched its lowest ever. I couldn't open SV, or really do anything without feeling stupid and useless; and much of it is/was related to my being stuck in my university for a long time. So after touching this record low, I've finally made the decision to change almost everything about my studying choices, and try to ignore external judgement as much as possible...because I don't ever want to get to that point again. Starting anew completely from scratch at my age is scary as hell, but I truly hope doing something I like with my life will help me regain my self confidence. Getting back to vidding is a sidestep in that direction too, I guess – but I still feel bad if it has inconvenienced any of you. I'll try my best to make it up in the future!

I honestly don't know why I waited so long to start watching it – I think I was a bit afraid it would be too fanservice-y ^^ – but instead I find a very sensitive product to the challenges, fears and pressure actual skaters face, with beautiful choreography and skating animations and really lovable characters...well, consider me sold!
(If I really had to pinpoint one annoying thing about this fandom, it's a part of the fanbase that feels the need to comment on every single real skating video with YOI stuff...I found it amusing at first, but it's getting really annoying that I can't go back anymore and rewatch one of my favourite FS by Yuzuru, for example, without finding hundreds of comments like “omg real life Yuuri” or something along these lines. Skaters are amazing and extra hard workers on their own right – and I'm very happy this anime is giving the actual sport more exposure because god knows it needs it and deserves all the love and attention, but constantly having to throw the anime in the middle without even acknowledging the real skater doing the real magic in the video you're commenting is so unbelievably rude T.T)

Minirant over, and back to these two adorbs – I think I have a knack for falling headlong for the underrated ships with two scenes in total when compared to the main ship. (Even though the official art that keeps popping out...I really don't know how some people can keep saying these two are only ever going to be friends when they depict them having cute breakfast dates and wearing matching freaking shirts, excuse me I can't hear you over the sound of all the canon-ness. In any case, I just adore their relationship in every form ♥). Btw don't get me wrong, I really like Victuuri, they are two precious dorks and married af, but something about these two...it must be that cool motorbike of Otabek's u.u and him rescuing Yurio like a true prince...or the fact that it took Yurio –aka the actual grumpycat of the show– an entire season to mature and go from disdain to respect towards Yuuri, but it only took him a single chat to open up with Beka and after that you only ever see him so relaxed and smiling in his presence, it's so heartwarming :3
(Also I might have a very serious and very irrational crush on him too, but shhhh, you didn't hear that...and yes, I totally stole Yuuri's ending quote about ice and love for this video because I believe it fits these two & the whole show in general so well, too.)

Finally, this is for my dear beautiful girl Becca (youtube.com/channel/UCVSvdlf4Ey32vsflweq9cIg), because she is the #1 fan of this show (and these two) I know, my official fanart provider and fangirling partner (and she has to bear with me spamming her with skating videos now xD), and most of all because she is going through a “down” period very similar to what I'm experiencing atm and I know all too well how ugly it feels...and hope this can make her smile even if just a little. I'll call this a sort of study in parallels between belligerant ships I like, even though the whole thing as usual probably made way more sense in my head... The ships I went with are all obviously very different, have different story arcs and fit the description in different ways, with some being more similar to one another than others – but I had fun finding visual parallels between those that aren't that immediately similar as well!

Additional random considerations about this video:
- It officially seems I can only vid Merlin in crossovers/multifandom/collab parts and not on its own anymore. Will always "thank" s5 for smiting a good chunk of my love for this show, seriously...
- TWP is coming out in April! Despite really disliking that book, the trailer looks amazing and Elizabeth seems to be depicted quite differently from the source material, which was just the thing I was hoping for, therefore I'm unexpectedly looking forward to it. I obviously don't know enough about this portrayal of Elizabeth and Henry yet, but from the trailer they seemed to fit the bill of this video perfectly, so they ended up being thrown into the mix at the very last minute.
-I still maintain that I would be fairly content with any ship outcome from the new Star Wars trilogy, BUT! after noticing the awesome potential Reylo has to become a live-action version of Zutara if they go for a similar redemption route with Kylo in the next films, this ship has grown on me exponentially (maybe just in time to be debunked by The Last Jedi, wouldn't that be great xD). A longer parallel just between these four occupies a significant portion of the video; and it would be seriously amazing if the upcoming films allowed me to make a full video only of parallels between these characters...ah, the possibilities.
**spoilers from future!Vale: it ended up happening ♡♡ you can scream in Reylo freely now, Vale of the past!**.
-Mergana/Milathos get their little dedicated parallel moment as well because heck, the similarities always HURT. So. Much T.T (and about these four I've already made a separate video ^^)
-Speaking of Zutara, it really amuses me that so many people back in the day criticized it for being an “abusive” ship (which is sadly another thing it has in common with Reylo, since apparently antis of any fandom don't understand the meaning of character development, can't bother to address well-thought out headcanons and meta and just have to reduce everything to “fangirls only ship this because the guy is hot”), but when you see it among these other similarly-themed ones it is probably the healthiest relationship by far in its overall canon story arc. That same healthiness is what I ultimately wish for Rey and Ben too, even if they turn out to be related and in the end we have to settle for a beautiful friendship like we did with Zuko and Katara.

...aaand now this description is already too long so I'll leave my ramblings there. I hope this concept hasn't turned into a total mess, but you'll be the judge of that I guess? Any opinions are, as always, really appreciated!

So...Final Fantasy XV came out this week past, the hype was stellar, but problem problem -- a girl doesn't own a PS4 or Xbox so she will have to wait until who-knows-when to play it on PC. So what does a girl do in the meantime? But replay her old favourite from the series, of course. The feels will be a lot easier to handle the second time, for sure, she thinks.

Even after all these years, this game still very much pulls at my heartstrings -- and while replaying it in-between Telltale Batman episodes and drowning in major feels all over again, I happened to be obsessed with a song that fitted the OTP of the game to a T -- hence you'll have to bear with a video from me on the subject. I'm pretty sure no one will know I have actually vidded this game before (when my editing was still rather subpar), but I hope some of you will like this nonetheless, and that I did more justice to this story and more particularly this couple this time, because they deserve it and will probably always be videogame OTP #1 to me. And even if you don't care about the story I still think this game, despite being 15 years old now (gee, I feel ancient now D:), has some of the most visually gorgeous cutscenes I've ever seen in a game, so I hope you'll at least be able to appreciate the beauty of those!

This video = result of me watching way too many period dramas atm and invariably choosing the most painful ships around to ship ç.ç
ITV's Victoria really surprised me as I went on watching, because at the beginning I found it pretty tedious, and couldn't stand Vic constantly whining about Lord M for 3 whole episodes and giving 0 f*cks about ruling and only thinking of herself all the time (sorry Vicbourne shippers, even though I will at least say Rufus Sewell was great in the role)...but then the Coburg brothers arrived to save the day, and the show changed from night to day to me and I loved the second half of the season. As much as Vicbert is OTP to me (all the chemistry!), though, the real surprise for me was *this* relationship here -- ahh, seeing David in such a sensitive, romantic role just melted my heart, it was about time he didn't play another crazy, power-starved villain. I loved everything about his Prince Ernest, and especially his relationship with both Albert and Harriet, the way he acted cool and a knowing courtier all the time but with them he showed his vulnerable, tender side. David's acting is always pretty subtle, but at the same time it hits you right with emotion at the exact moment it needs to and daww, I just fell in love with him a little bit more with this role. I seriously hope to see more of Ernest in s2, even though I already know this relationship won't go anywhere ;_;
(I also know I can be pretty nitpicky about historical accuracy when depicting real people, and this affair probably neverever happened considering the real Harriet and her husband were known to be a strong match and had 11 kids together...but ehhh, in this case you'll have to excuse me for making an exception, can't help it against David's lovelorn puppy eyes xD.)

So, normal people vid sad stuff when they're upset about something...and then there's me, who vids sad stuff as a normal occurrence and then when I'm upset I pick the project with the most upbeat song to finish because I just don't want to think about more sad things and how much I am going to miss (and miss already...) one person that was very dear to me. At least via vidding something good can actually come out of this real downer of a September...and my grandpapa was the biggest superhero comic fan, so I'd like to think at least he would like the subject matter here. I am going to miss you so much...

(as for the video: yeah I am Telltale trash, the GOT game has ruined me for life and I am not going to stop any time soon. I've never been much into superhero stories, but of all of them Batman always struck me as one of the most interesting [I love how he has a lot of grey areas and that he doesn't need actual superpowers to be awesome], and as the universe with the most interestingly complex characters --especially villains-- so naturally I was curious about the new game...and it is indeed pretty cool. And to me the crazy chemistry and constant teasing/innuendo between these two is one of the best things about it as of now, so ofc vid happened. Stop giving me ships to ship, Telltale!)

WotR, long time no see! This was one of my older projects I was too stubborn to drop completely, and honestly I am glad I didn't, because I had missed vidding my favourite dysfunctional medieval royals. I think this song is pretty perfect for any royal family really, despite its very modern sound, and how they must appear as perfect models and a united family for the common people despite the ugliness that might occur behind the scenes. And ugliness between relatives and in-laws certainly was a daily occurrence where the Plantagenets (& wives) of all ages were involved...

Everyone who knows me a little will know I have certain favourites in the family and I usually tend to take their sides in everything, but with this video I tried to be as impartial as possible, so everyone gets their share of shadiness as portrayed in the show xD (even though history shouldn't make it possible for me to make parallels between EoY and Mistress Shore...but historical inaccuracy and how much it irks me is a topic for another time ^^''). I also tried a somewhat different style of editing (huge inspiration provided by this wonderful ATLA video: youtube.com/watch?v=BX35SvC7pSE), so I would very much like to hear what you think of it :)

Of course with two TFA vids already started (and well on the way to completion too, for once!) I had to start a third and finish it first... I guess after watching several ep.VIII theory videos –some of which way more sensible than I expected– revolving mostly around either Rey or Kylo (or both; and I must admit the Reylo ship has really grown on me since I first saw the film for several reasons, one of them being that I suddenly realized how much they could potentially remind me of another OTP of mine :o but that's a topic for another time) I was suddenly struck with Solo family feels and just had to put this together in my meagre spare time and stolen sleep hours before it escaped my mind; my inspiration is weird like that :/ even though to be honest I had wanted to vid this song with Kylo/Ben for quite a bit, and to make a video solely about him in general. He is such an amazingly complex character, and personally the more I think about it the more layers I find and the more I appreciate him. Plus Adam's performance really strikes with me the more I rewatch his scenes – the way he can communicate so much even just with body language when he's wearing his mask is amazingsauce! I expect great things from Kylo in VIII-IX (with hopefully better film plotlines than TFA...) that will make people reconsider calling him just an immature, uncharismatic emo-boy :)

The video in general revolves around Ben's stormy/mixed feelings towards his family and the place he's in now, what he's left behind and why he did it, and how this all carries into that one defining moment with his father *cries forever*. So you'll get lots of Han/Leia, and some Luke and Chewie too. I also tried my hand at manipping a bit – and I'm sorry I seem to use Narnia for all my kid fancasting of late xD I think Skandar doesn't look 100% like Adam but they have some features in common (their nose shape/facial bone structure is kinda similar), and most importantly he had convenient scenes for the kind of flashbacks I needed, so there you have my choice of casting explained.

Hope you enjoy, and please let me know your thoughts – textwork always ends up draining my energies and making me want to just be done with videos and neverever see them again in my life, so I can never tell if it's awful or if it only seems so to me because it takes me too much damn time to sort it out xD
(Also, does anyone else go seriously nuts whenever you have to colour TFA? I swear to God, that bridge confrontation scene with all that red is very atmospheric but also a nightmare to colour...and if you base a colouring on that scene it ends up looking weird on the rest of the film so you constantly have to tweak it back and forth -.-'')

1. I wanted to let you know I'm not dead (just starting to be busier and extremely stressed out because of a crucial exam session approaching, but still alive for now ^^'');
2. This is probably the most I've worked my ass on a 20-sec collab part (I had totally forgotten how much of a pain those scar manips are...) and tbh I'm fairly proud of the result, so I just wanted to show you guys; and

Star Wars | Journeying Hearts {seven emotions challenge; thc}

Made for the March round of the Hogwarts Contest -- Seven Emotions. I honestly thought I wasn't going to make it because I wasn't ispired *at all* for this round, but then suddenly this idea hit me very late in the month, and I found myself running against time to meet the deadline ^^'' not my best idea probably, but I'm fairly happy with the result. And the fact that my new computer is a total lifesaver and renders unbelievably fast (for my standards, at least) helped, too :D
(Also, sorry to all my non-SW subcribers, it seems I am on a spree with my first fandom again ^^ but I have different projects in motion, too!)

For this round we had to make a video showcasing seven different emotions. I didn't want to make another multifandom, and then while thinking about the number seven it hit me that there are seven Star Wars movies now...so I thought about going about it slightly differently and assign one emotion to each movie and try telling the story as a whole through them ^-^ it wasn't easy to find a single emotion that would suit each film (especially since SW is a true rollercoaster of feels to me), and you may disagree with some of my choices, but I'll leave you my reasons for them here - and if you enjoy the video at all, let me know your thoughts ♥

TPM → Loneliness: because it's an emotion all the main three go through in the film. Padmé is alone fighting for her people's survival in a Senate that won't help her; Anakin feels lonely without his mother; and Obi-Wan is left alone by Qui-Gon's death (I also imagine, as Qui-Gon was quite an indipendent spirit and often clashed with the rest of the Council, that Obi as his student wasn't very often around other Padawans his age);
AOTC → Attachment: because it's Anakin's main problem throughout the films, and at the very heart of this particular one. Attachment is a love that is too strong, and walks hand in hand with the inability to let go of those we love; and in Anakin's reaction to his mother's death one can already foresee what it is that will doom him in the end.
ROTS → Despair: guess not many explanations are needed for this one. The light side hits rock bottom in this film...
ANH → Hope: another obvious choice starting from the title of the film. I think ANH is the most hopeful out of all films; also, hope is the direct opposite of despair, and while episode III is the end of a descending arc, episode IV is the start of an ascending one.
TESB → Shock: because the first scene that always comes to mind with episode V is the infamous Vader/Luke shocking revelation, but Han, Leia and Chewie go through it too when they are betrayed on Bespin and Han is frozen into carbonite.
ROTJ → Compassion: because it's the turning point of the film. Luke refuses the dark side because he feels his father's suffering and he realizes the same fate will be his own if he does not; and Vader's soul is saved because he is pierced by Luke's pain and wants to put an end to it. Through compassion (or "unconditional love", in Anakin's words) they save each other -- and this is why ROTJ will probably always make me cry like a baby ç_ç
TFA → Wonderment: the wonder in Rey's eyes is one of the things that stayed with me after seeing the film, and I think one of the goals of this new SW was definitely to bring back that sense of wonder of the previous films and involve a new generation with it, so that's why I chose this emotion (even though I was sorry not to include more characters from the movie).

irydionlover. 2016-03-20 | I don't usually upload collab parts on this channel (actually I don't upload them anywhere recently, since I've so brightly lost the password to my backup channel and can't seem to retrieve it thanks to G+'s awesome *insert sarcasm* recovery system ^^''), but I've become very fond of this couple while editing and I don't think I've seen anything with them around...so I felt like they deserved an upload of their own. If I ever come across the right song I definitely need to make a full video for them...the fabricant turned revolutionary and her Jedi protector who takes her with him into the Rebellion, how perfect is that? :)

Crying forever because of how heartbreakingly beautiful these two are. They were and still are my very first brotp, and I guess in the irrational way we hold on to our first loves they will keep shattering all my feels to pieces until the end of my days ç.ç
Prequels haters gonna hate, but to me the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan will always be one of the best things (if not *the* best thing) about SW. And if you tell me that Ewan and Hayden’s portrayals didn’t add a whole new universe of layers and depth to the original Vader and Obi-Wan, then you’re either lying to yourself or blind, and nothing will ever make me think otherwise.
I also think the first CW cartoon is awfully underrated and has a whole lot of awesome scenes and plotlines (will forever love the Nelvaan Quest episodes…and will forever love Obi being grumpy in the rain, and him and Ani making a generator explode and then strolling away together in the middle of the battle like total bosses just a little while earlier :D), so that’s why I decided to put it to good use here. About the video as a whole, well…I’ve been wanting to make a new video about these two with better quality clips (and hopefully better editing skills, too ^^) for basically forever, and I cannot begin to explain how much it means to me to have finished this. I guess to me this video is also a sort of testament of how much I’ve learned in these years of vidding, since these two were my very first topic to explore with Sony Vegas – I’ve grown up with them as beloved characters and I believe I’ve grown up with them as a vidder too, and this is another reason why they will always be special to me. As soon as I heard this powerful song I knew it was the one (even if it’s quite a hard song to vid, with its constant rhythm changes!), and for once I’m pretty happy with the result. I hope you will enjoy as well – and if you do, any comments would be super-appreciated, especially since I spent a ridiculous amount of time on this ♥

Theme: we all fall down for different reasons - power, love, fate; but in suffering we are all equals, and sometimes through suffering we can find common ground with the ones we least expect, and new beginnings too.

First video I made as a participant of the Hogwarts Contest! I am very excited to be a part of this, because it is the occasion for me to try new things; and this challenge already made me experiment it seems, because this turned into my very first multifandom video - something I was always scared to attempt because having to organize so many different fandoms and knowing which clips to put where without them seeming randomly thrown together always felt quite difficult to me. I had a theme in mind for this video and I tried to stick to it...you tell me if I was successful or not ^-^
Anyway, this was made for the One Effect Challenge, and my chosen effect was Gaussian Blur, since it's by far the one I'm most comfortable using, it's a very versatile effect and it's the one I truly can't imagine making a video without.
{Also, I feel a wide-ranging multifandom video be a perfect way to celebrate the fact that I have recently hit 1700+ subscribers -- that's a CRAZILY huge number, and I couldn't be more humbled that still more people keep coming to the channel and enjoying my vids. I'm thinking of hosting another collab (a crossover/AU one, because they're kind of scarce on this channel to my taste) as a small celebration, so if you're interested stay tuned for that around the end of this month :)}

irydionlover. 2016-02-03 | This totally unplanned video is the result of me being overly tired of studying for my upcoming chemistry exam and needing a break + the recent European championships of ice-skating I have been watching in my very meagre spare time (when will this bloody exam session end?!).

I am an average skater at best but I enjoy doing it a lot when I can, and the international competitions are by far my favourite sport to watch, as some might know ^-^ I think what captivates me about ice-skating is that these are not just athletes, but artists as well; they have to put emotion in every performance, and every skating routine tells its own story through the combination of music and body language. I am always mesmerized by the magic these champions can create *-* and I guess living in Turin I am luckier than most, because we have excellent ice rinks and after the 2006 Olympics athletes came to know and love my city and they often come back for shows in the winter season.
Of course the hopeless romantic in me has a soft spot for the ice dance more than any of the other sub-disciplines in figure skating, and so I put this thing together ^^ these are some of my favourite couples of ice dancers, some still competing and some not anymore – and let me tell you it is very hard for me not to ship some of these people irl too with the way they are absolutely in tune with one another!

Not sure what this video is (the only sure thing is that it should probably be titled "Vale sucks at typography"), but at least it's something...and it's Star Wars! I feel like I've neglected this fandom awfully, but my love for it has never and *will* never go away - despite the fact that I have my big fat issues with TFA. Why am I vidding it then, you'll ask? Because I thought the characters in it were quite brilliant and have a lot of potential, but the plot of the film was the laziest ever (parallels are my favourite thing in the world, but not to the point of almost downright copying sequences from the other movies...) and some things didn't make sense to me, even though I won't ramble about it unless asked. I hope the next films can resolve some of the issues I had with this first one, and expand on the characters' potential, and especially on these two here, who are still the most intriguing to me ^-^
As for the way I see them, I am not jumping on the shipping bandwagon I saw developing here on YT where Ben/Kylo and Rey are concerned, because I still fancy the idea that they are siblings (the film really seems to point to Rey being Luke's, but it seemed a bit *too* obvious to me...plus I would love it if they were siblings, it would make their clash even more epic and it would be a nice nod to the not-canon-anymore Jacen and Jaina Solo). This song perhaps isn't the best to portray their struggle, but I suppose what I wanted to underline is that Ben/Kylo is not that villainous as he wants to appear, and a part of him realizes he has put himself on a path of suffering of his own choosing; and that my hope is that if Rey has to follow in Luke's footsteps, then she might as well become the one who believes he can be turned back. For now we'll just have to wait and see where the scriptwriters will take them :)

So...this video is almost 2 years (!) in the making, and it looked/sounded 3928465 times better in my head when I first started it in faraway 2013...but I was being *really* loathe to leave it unfinished because I didn't want to waste the already-done 80% of the manipping work. Also, it's been far too long since I posted a crossover on this channel; so at least have this, whatever the final result is (and despite me not being completely happy with it). I guess you can totally tell the sections where I've been lazier...

I had written a lengthy and detailed plot description, but YT says it's too long – so I'll just leave a few facts here to clarify some plot points instead. The story should hopefully be understandable for the most part (albeit probably unfolding way too fast since I stupidly chose so short a song -.-"). You can ask me more in the comments (you know I always appreciate them :3) if you are confused or curious (or both?).

-Video is titled after the tv show “The Borgias”; I thought the “game of want and wanting” line totally fitted these characters, for everyone here wants someone (or something) they cannot have.

-In the video, the York brothers are nobles and knights of Camelot. Morgana is Arthur's sister (as per canon), and her and George are officially courting; while Gwen is Anne's maid, and she is in a (secret) relationship with Edward. Elizabeth has been Arthur's lover for many years.

-My backstory headcanon for these Richard and Anne is that they've known each other all their lives and kind of always expected to marry (much like in TWQ), but when Anne's ambitious parents saw the opportunity to make her Queen they went for it. Richard has always harboured feelings for Anne, and tries to keep her company/make her feel better everytime Arthur publicly flaunts his mistress to the court. I would describe their relationship here as early medieval “courtly love”, where a knight chose a lady to swear himself to, to be gallant to and to fight for in exchange of her “favour”, but never actually consummating a relationship (although Richard breaks this scheme when he kisses Anne).

-Merlin, too, has always loved Elizabeth from afar, but being a servant he has never acted upon it aside from always being there for her. These two have magic like in their respective shows and they know about each other's “gifts” (also a reason why they are close and Merlin is a sorta confidant to Bess), but they use it little for fear of discovery.
[I actually would have loved to expand on this but didn't have the space in this already overcrowded video...T.T]

-Arthur notices Anne and Richard being close and reacts how he does not so much out of jealousy (he loves Bess and only married Anne because it was arranged), but because society is okay with a King being unfaithful and having affairs but not with a Queen doing the same (even though he's totally assuming that something more is going on with them, because at that point they are completely innocent of anything aside from Richard's buried feelings). He's basically being quite the hypocrite – wanting his wife to have an irreprensible public image while he's the first to ignore her for his own mistress ^^''
[sorry Arthur, you're always ending up showing your Jerkdragon alter-ego in my crossovers...]

-When (spoilers for the ending!) Edward takes the throne by right of conquest and crowns Gwen his Queen, Morgana is upset by this, as by dynastic right she should be the heir as Arthur's closest relative. This triggers her and George's ambitious side and thirst for power – which represents the titular “want” for them.

-In the end (spoilers again!), everything that happened seems to have just been a dream of Morgana's – which she realizes upon seeing Anne alive and well and worried about her crying out in her sleep. (Anne calls her “sister” because that was the use back then for in-laws too.) But was it a dream, or a seeing? And if it is, would Morgana want to stop the events from taking place knowing that a crown might be in sight at the end of it all? That is left up to the viewer to decide...

Yep, a video about my latest fandom again - except this one was, like, totally unplanned. I really wanted to finish some of my old/already started projects first (before the September exam session sweeps me off my feet again :/), but an adorable videochat with my little brother (who's still on holiday with our dad at the Hawaii, the little lucky pal!) steered me towards this. I adore the relationship between these two in the game and how they always look out for one another, and while playing I always feel Rodrik's protectiveness towards Talia very personally since I have basically the same age gap with my brother (except he's the younger one and I am the big sis ^^).
I also used this video as an excuse to experiment a bit with some overlays I don't normally use, hopefully the result is not too bad. There are things here and there I'd still modify (I always seem to find things I dislike *after* rendering, ofc -.-) but after a 10+ hour-long render (really Vegas, for 2 mins of video?) I don't have the energy xD

I'm on a roll with this damn heartbreaking game. I'm not even sorry. If you like Game of Thrones and haven't checked it out yet, do yourself a favour and GO. PLAY. IT and have your heart torn to pieces by these amazing characters – it's painful, but it's worth it.

So, this is basically me trying to cope with the hardest decision-making ever from episode 5 of TTGOT (it took me a week to sort of recover from *that* ending and the pain only comes back if I dwell on it again ;__;) and making a long overdue tribute to House Forrester as a whole, whose fate I am more invested in than that of the tv show characters at the moment (I think it might have something to do with the fact that, as a player, you get to make things happen firsthand...and of course, that this family is downright awesome as a whole :3). I also finally got the chance to edit with one of my favourite songs, which I had never used before because it's possibly one of the most overused songs in every fandom EVER ^^

Like in my other video, I will leave a bit of background info on the characters down here for the majority of my subbers who probably won't know anything about these people ^^
The video focuses more on Rodrik at times because 1) he's my favourite character; and 2) as someone beautifully wrote somewhere, he's sort of the moral heart of the Forresters, embodying their House's words “Iron from Ice” - strength and endurance (iron) coming from something that's apparently fragile and breakable (ice). I also included both Asher's and Rodrik's death sequences (T.T) because I could totally see both willingly giving their life for the other in that situation, and I wanted to show that. Both outcomes were going to break my heart anyway ç_ç

Hiya all!

Alternate title to this video: "me getting my hands back on manipping and frustrating the hell out of myself (as if exam session wasn't frustrating enough on its own)". Also, dedicated to Anouk (Ilovehertjes) because of a FB conversation we had some time ago, and because she's probably one of the two or three people among my subscribers who will actually know who these folks are ^-^

For the rest, this lovely couple is from Telltale's Game of Thrones videogame series, which I've started playing while suffering from withdrawal symptoms after s5 ended (in that HORRIBLE way T__T *hugs bb Jon*). The game is set between the ending of s3 and s4 of the series, and has you playing as several members of House Forrester (Stark bannermen) as they struggle to keep their House from ruin and abuse by their neighbours in the aftermath of the Red Wedding. Needless to say, I've soon become completely engrossed with the story and the characters (BAD, bad move, as this is GOT and therefore everyone's going to die painfully, I can feeeeeeeel it in my bones ;___;). Episode 5 is going to be out in a couple of days, and I feel like I'm breathing anxiety!

Anyway, in the midst of all the tension, GOT politics and family drama, I found myself totally shipping these two, hence the video -- where I have tried to incorporate a bit of fancasting for them, too! Rodrik is the eldest child and heir to House Forrester and was initially presumed dead, but actually survived the massacre at the Twins (even if he got badly wounded and scarred); while Elaena was his one-time betrothed and her House used to be a strong ally to the Forresters before the War of the Five Kings erupted. When the game actually gave the option to kiss her while playing as Rodrik I think I squealed like a madwoman ♥ I guess I just have a weakness for childhood sweethearts growing into partners and lovers and where the man has a physical condition (*coughs in Richanne*)...

Not really sure how many among my subscribers are familiar with this animated series...but if you don't know Avatar: the Last Airbender, 1) under what rock have you been living all this time? and 2) I would seriously recommend it to anyone. It's not even remotely a cartoon for children only, and is made of three seasons of amazing storytelling and character development that could outshine lots of live-action tv shows.
In the midst of all the awesomeness, this fellow here is the very best thing about the show in my opinion, and one of my favourite characters in the history of beloved characters. How could anyone not love the OG Redemption Arc Boy™? A video about him had to come sooner or later; I was just waiting for the right song...and when I found one that actually repeats the word "fire" 36 times (I may have counted) how could I resist really? xD

It won't probably ever happen to me again to finish two vids in two days! This one was totally unplanned, but ever since I saw that awesometastic new trailer for The Force Awakens I've been in a fangirling state (Han! Chewie! Luke quoting ROTJ! aklsjakdhfdfjkgh!), and then I stumbled across this short song titled "Awakening"...and I couldn't resist xD so, here I am back to my beloved first fandom - SW, how I had missed thee!
Actually this is really nothing special, just me playing around with the little footage we already have for the movie, but I'm pretty happy about the result for once. And to think I was super-skeptical about the making of new SW movies to begin with...but this trailer really looks so good and makes me hope for beautiful things. JJ, I'm counting on you now! (and counting the days 'til December!)
