Wagner Leitmotifs | 57 Need of the Gods : Der Ring Des Nibelungen @wagnerleitmotifs7654 | Uploaded August 2013 | Updated October 2024, 13 hours ago.
This leitmotif is first heard in act 2 scene 3 of Die Walkure.
This motif is formed from the combination of 3 motifs: Erda, then Gotterdammerung then Wotan's frustration. Erda is the all knowing one who first alerted him to the forthcoming danger, Gotterdammerung (Twilight of the Gods) is that danger and Wotan's Frustration represents Wotan's inability to do anything to stop the danger. Overall this motif expresses the god's desire to continue existing and regain the power they had in Das Rheingold.
