Hi all!

Watch as I take the deconstructed bloom technique to the extreme with TLP pigments! You won't believe what we're creating with this unique bloom recipe and blowing paint method. Get ready for some colorful, mind-blowing art!

This is an interesting modified deconstructed bloom turned into a geode-inspired abstract art piece. After a lovely family vacation; I returned home and promplty caught the flu. I was no where near 100% healthy when I made this video, and my energy died about half way through. I am quiet and a bit lost in my own thoughts I'm afraid; please feel free to fast forward through the slower bits. I thought abut severely editing this video by about 10 minutes; but I know there are those who want to see the entire process--trials and tribulations included--so I thought I'd leave it in. I am still very much on the fence on this painting--I think using too many pigments made it too blingy for my esthetic. Lesson learned there. Let me know what you think, and I promise to be perkier in the next video! --Karen

THE RECIPE:

House Paint-base aka puddle for the substrate: PPG MultiPro in Satin from Home Depot, or Color To Go Extra White in Satin from any Sherwin Williams store. For this painting I used PPG MultiPro.
Pouring Medium aka PM Recipe: mix with all colors EXCEPT the cell activator color:

Behr 8300 Untinted Deep Base Paint (Home Depot); Infinity Semi-Gloss Base C Untinted (Lowe's) and JoSonja Gloss Varnish OR Minwax Polyacrylic Gloss. I use a quart measuring cup (HD + get a lid). Mix up 12 oz. of the Behr 8300; 6 oz. of the Infinity, and 4 oz of varnish or the water-based polyacrylic to make 22 ounces of pouring medium. Stir well. NOTE: If your Behr is thin, you may not need the varnish so add a little at a time to get your desired consistency. This recipe is a guideline depending on the viscosity of the untinted house paint.

Use the colors and brands of your choice! These tutorials are meant to educate and inspire! Here's how to mix:

Pigments: For a 3 oz cup I add 1/2 teaspoon of pigment powder to the cup, then add enough gloss varnish (any brand; I use JoSonja gloss varnish) to cover the powder. Mix well until all pigment is thoroughly wet; then add the pouring medium; mix well. Recommend a Covid mask to mix.

For any brand fluid or high flow acrylics: I put 2 1/2 ounces of the pouring medium into a 3 ounce cup, then squirt in color until I reach my desired shade. Mix well.

For tube paint (medium or heavy body paint), I added an 1/2 ounce of paint (1/2 teaspoon) to a 3 ounce cup, then added 2 ounces of pouring medium. If still thick I add a squirt of Golden's High Flow Medium (thins and extends acrylic colors) OR water, and stir well.

Cell Activator/Color: Australian Floetrol + Amsterdam Titanium White, 2 -1 ratio Australian Floetrol to paint.
