A while back I saw a boat jump up in the air from a soulsand bubble column and it was so genuinely baffling I figured it must be a bug. So, I decided to investigate, and nope! Turns out they're actually just designed to get 0.6m/t of upwards velocity every 3 seconds they spend in bubbles. And even more bafflingly, they get 2.7m/t if there's a player riding in them. Which is a genuinely crazy amount, since for reference, bows shoot arrows at ~3.0m/t.
This usually isn't very noticeable though, since riding in a boat resets its velocity every tick(I assume since you're supposed to be controlling it with the client?). So, as a result it only moves by this crazy velocity for 1 tick before getting reset back to zero. I imagine this is why they made it 2.7m/t, just increasing it so it looks comparable to the normal trajectory, maybe without realizing why it's getting reset? But either way, since it only gets reset if you're riding the boat, you can just ride the boat long enough to get the velocity, and then exit it the next tick when it would usually reset. That way it keeps all of the boost and just shoots up 50 blocks, because 2.7 is an absurd and unnaturally big number. The only catch is you can't dismount somewhere above the boat, else it'll bonk on you on the way up and lose the velocity. Here I get off onto some land for that, but getting into another boat would work too. Going into spectator mode Doesn't Work though because for some evil reason boats have collision with spectator players(???)
Of course sadly you can't just ride it while it shoots up 50 blocks, since getting back in still resets the velocity. (Truly very lame and boring) But I did realize you can put your favorite vehicle(e.g. llama) in the boat, and then ride that without resetting the velocity ig. Fun somewhat restored maybe?
I'd be VERY shocked if nobody's accidentally done this before, which sounds very funny to watch, but somehow I've never even heard of it. It even still exists in the latest version, so I have no idea what's going on. It's not even hard to do!! What!!
