1️⃣ Replaying conversations:
Going back over what you said to make sure it didn’t come off wrong can feel like you’re being thoughtful. But when you can’t let it go or feel like you need to review it over and over, that’s OCD looking for certainty.
2️⃣ Double-checking “just in case”:
Checking the door, the stove, a message you sent—being careful makes sense. But if it still doesn’t feel right and you keep going back, that’s more than responsibility.
3️⃣ Overthinking decisions:
Wanting to make a good choice is normal. OCD turns it into pressure, where every option feels high-stakes and hard to trust.
4️⃣ Feeling responsible for preventing harm:
Caring about others is a good thing. OCD can take that and make it feel like it’s your job to stop something bad from happening, even when it’s out of your control.
5️⃣ Needing to feel completely sure:
Most things in life don’t come with full certainty. OCD makes it feel like you need that certainty before you can move on—and keeps you stuck trying to get it.
OCD doesn’t always look obvious. Sometimes it looks like doing the “right” thing, just taken too far.
